I am wondering if anyone is wearing another dress to their wedding reception. The wedding party dress concept has become popular. I am toying with the idea of wearing a more fun/party dress to the reception. I figure it will be the only time in my life I can have two wardrobe changes in one night! What are brides to be thoughts on this?

I think it is a great idea, but maybe change to your reception dress after you and your husband get announced and have taken some pics with your guests in your wedding dress. Then you can change into something more comfortable and fun for the dancing. I didn’t have a big wedding, but I did end up changing into another dress for our dinner because I didn’t want to show up in my wedding dress and be uncomfortable.

I love, love, love clothes but I couldn’t fathom the idea of changing out of my wedding dress for the reception. I loved my dress and was seriously sad to take it off at the end of the night knowing I wouldn’t wear it again. So I don’t quite understand this new trend.
Now, I should say that despite my dress being a fluffy ballgown, it was very iight and comfortable, so it wasn’t a comfort issue. Some of the dresses I tried on while shopping felt like they weighed 20 pounds. If I’d picked a heavier dress, I might have considered a reception/party dress.
But to each bride her own. And yes, your wedding is definitely a great excuse for a wardrobe change, simply because you can if you want.

I’m doing this! I need a super conservative dress for the ceremony, but I wanted something more young and fun (and without a big train!) for later in the night. If you can afford it… why not?

I still am looking for a dress to change into in case i get uncomforatble later in the night.
But im gonna try to stay in my dress.

oooh oooh I did this !!
I am spoilt though cos I got married 2 weeks before our reception, so I wore my dress at the ceremony, then for about 2 hours for the group photos at the reception, then changed.
My wedding dress on our wedding day
We had ‘pre drinks’ before our reception at Quay Bar at Circular Quay where I wore my dress and we captured lots of group photos
Then as soon as we got to the restaurant I slipped into a back room and changed. People didn’t even notice I’d gone, then I was like “Surprise”! It was fun 🙂 I was also really comfortable in the reception dress and made our wedding dance so much easier!

@KellyLouise: Thank you for sharing your beautiful wedding photos! The location of your wedding is gorgoues! Your 1st and 2nd wedding dresses were so flattering and pretty. I appreciate your insight and photos. I definitely want to wear a second dress, thanks for the confirmation!

Thank you ladies for your insight, I was definitely torn about should I or should I not wear a 2nd dress. I do love my wedding dress, but it’s a mermaid style and I am a bit worried I won’t be able to dance the night away, without feeling like a mummy. Fashion is pain, but I think I want to wear a reception dress that let’s me cut lose and maybe do a nasty break dance move or two!

@blisslife: I changed! My favorite color is red and always has been, but I didn’t want to be SO untraditional as to have a red wedding dress. So I had a red reception dress instead! I changed during the reception. We came into the reception and were announced as a couple while I was in my white dress. My husband and I were served our food first, so we ate quickly while everyone else was still recieving their food. Then the people made their speeches. Then, I ducked out to quickly change while people finished eating and were having their plates cleared. Then I came out in the red dress and the DJ immediately announced our first dance. We did the cake cutting right after while everyone was there and seated and watching…then we went into the dance portion of the night.
And Red Reception dress:

@mickey84: That is what I am talking about! Both dresses are beautiful and I am so digging your 2nd dress! Both are definitely statements. I am looking foward to finding my 2nd dress. Looking at brides 2nd dress is giving me inspiration to go out the box. Thanks and have a wonderful wedding on the 20th!

@BookGirrl: Thank you for sharing! That is a really good idea about the bride and groom eating 1st especially if I want to do a dress change. It makes it more seamless as I do my 2nd dress entrance (hehehehe). I love your choice of Red, it is bold and a very flattering color on you. I am getting alot of inspiration on the 2nd dress. I was going to do white for my 2nd dress, but since I am already wearing it ( actually ivory, who am I kidding!), it makes more sense to do a 2nd dress in a fun color I love. Thanks!

I’m doing this too! In fact, i’m a little more excited about my party dress that I am the ceremony!
I’m going to do the photos in the ceremy dress, but then change and do my entrance in the party dress. I’ve had a few people tell me to stay in the long dress for the entrance, but I think about it like this: I’ll be married when i enter the reception, it’s like a new me in a sense! So I want to make a splash twirling in my cute sparkly dress!
Is it a little silly? Never! I’m just too practical (and clutzy) to spend all night tripping over my train. Of course, I wouldn’t have been able to afford it had i not been a dressilyme bride. Yay dressilyme!
