I just got engaged last month. My fiance and I both live in Virginia and are planning a destination wedding in New Orleans. We have both been to New Orleans (I went twice last year, he went once) so we are fairly familiar with the downtown area. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on where to have the reception. The ceremony wll be at St Louis Cathedral on May 14, 2011. We are expecting anywhere from 150-200 guests. I noticed that a lot of the wedding menus offer buffet-like stations, but we plan to have a plated dinner. Right now we are leaning towards the New Orleans Marriott because of the location and price. We would like to keep the price per person (including open bar) under $100 and would like to be in/near the French Quarter.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

I attended a wedding at the St. Loius hotel in the French Quarter and it was beatiful. It was much smaller (like < 100 ppl) than you’re planning so I’m not sure if it would work. I also have no idea about the pricing. They had a 2nd line at the end of the night which was sooo cool! They had arranged for police escorts so that entire wedding could march around the french quarter.

In New Orleans, everyone has buffet or stations no matter how high the budget. I’m sure venues can do sit down dinners for you, it is just not the norm. The Mariott would be nice but here are a few places to look into with a more New Orleans feel.
The Monteleone Hotel
The New Orleans Board of Trade

I agree with cakegal on Latrobe’s it just has the New Orleans feel. We normally stay at the Royal Sonesta and I actually looked into this option so I know you can get food/alcohol for this price. Happy Planning!

What about The Court of Two Sisters?? They are on Royal Street very close to the cathedral..If it’s not too hot you could second line to the reception…Congrats and best of luck!!!
