We’re doing our registries at BB&B and Macy’s and I’m not sure about our wedding registry etiquette. A lot of the items we have selected are available at both stores, so we have registered for them at each for the convenience of our guests. Then we can just delete the overlapping item from the other registry when it has been purchased.
But I’m curious as to what the rule is on if you should overlap items on your registries. Is it convenient or just confusing? After doing a little google search online and not really getting an answer, I thought I’d ask you all. Thanks!

Nooooooo. This is just my personal, anecdotal experience, but you may not have time to delete duplicate items once someone has bought them, and then guests run the risk of doubling up gifts. I’m pretty sure my cousin did this (overlapping items on his registry), and I was all proud of myself when I cought a bunch of items that went together in a cute way (teapot/mugs/etc). Well come to find out that his other registry has the same thing on it, that someone else has already bought! I know that they can just return it for cash, but I felt annoyed that the time and $ I spent picking out the items were pretty much wasted.
ETA: I know I don’t necessarily peruse both registries a couple has. I usually just pick 1 and run with it.

I agree- it may be uncomfortable also at your shower if you get 2 of the same item several times!

@MsJeep23: Thanks for sharing your experience. That’s true–I’m sure it can be difficult to police both registries for purchased duplicates. And it’s definitely not the responsibility of the guests to have to check multiple registries for purchased items.
@Evie19: That could be pretty awkward!
