My understanding is that you can register for pretty much anything, up to and including large furniture and appliances. You shouldn’t necessarily expect to get it, but it doesn’t hurt to put it on there. Some people will want to treat you to something expensive, or band together with other guests to buy something big. Also, some stores give you a discount on things you register for.

Just make sure that you have lots of items in all price ranges – if you need absolutely everything then this won’t be a problem. As a guest, it sucks to see a registry where everything you can afford is already gone.

Also, remember that a lot of appliances will come with a place if you rent/buy, so that is something you may not want to be putting on there (microwave / toaster oven / toaster / blender / smaller appliances are acceptable – I wouldn’t put a washer/dryer, fridge, etc on it).

Just think what you will really need/want – a set of dishes for everything (china if you feel you need it – we are not requesting it), flatware, drinkware, pots/pans set (and some flippers/spatulas/other things). Register for ‘sets’ of these things – often times they are less expensive then buying it all separately, and then you would get all birds with one stone (like all the cooking utensils, or a set of pots/pans).

I sometimes wish I didn’t have things – I’ve already got all the things we need, as we just purchased a house a year and 1/2 ago. It’s so hard finding things we don’t need / don’t have.
