I’ve noticed on a lot of pregnancy/L&D tv shows that many women are only wearing their wedding band, or no rings at all. I’m curious to see how many women have experienced swelling where they could no longer comfortably wear their rings, or if this is just a coincidence.
Were you able to keep your rings on throughout your pregnancy?

I actually took mine off before swelling became a problem because my metal allergy worsened enough that I could no longer wear my white gold rings. I imagine, though, at the end, I would’ve had to take them off anyway because of swelling.

I wasn’t able to wear mine towards the end. I bought a cheap band in a bigger size (I think it was a 7 and my regular wedding band was a 5 1/4) and at the very end, even it didn’t fit, so I gave up.
I had a LOT of swelling though. I wore only flip flops or tennis shoes without laces at the end because none of my shoes fit either.

I’m in Fl where the heat is awful. I already took mine off b/c I’m paranoid that one day I won’t be able to and it will be too late. I wear it around my neck instead.

I had to take my ring off and I feel so naked. I can’t wear it because it is getting hot and the swelling from being pregnant is enough that it is extremely uncomfortable to wear it anymore. I try to wear it to church, but I doubt I will even to that anymore soon. In fact, I am going to a church thing tonight and probably will not think about putting my ring on since it is off…

I’m in my 36th week and still can wear rings normally, though typically I only wear my wedding band anyways.
I’ve started to have a bit of swelling but it seems to be more in my legs and ankles than hands.

I have 4 women on my project teams at work who are 8+ months pregnant or have just given birth within the last month (so I was around them when they were 8+ months pregnant). Three out of the 4 of them were/are still able to wear their rings.

@artbee: Thanks for mentioning wearing them around your neck. I’m not so sure I’d have thought of that. I’d really like to continue to wear them in one way or another.
Once baby arrived, did it take long before they would comfortably fit again?

I really thought by now my rings would be off, however at 23 weeks in Florida, they are both still on.

My mom says her finger were swollen like sausages while pregnant and warned me to take my rings off right away, at 6 weeks! I won’t take them off right away, but I try them on/off regularly to see how it feels… A bit snug already.
When I can no longer wear mine, we’ll get me a bigger ring with the baby’s birthstone that I can wear until my wedding set fits again. Later I’ll be able to pass down the birthstone ring.

I’m due any day now (yay!) and am still wearing my rings and am able to take them off at night/before I shower/etc. I am lucky though because it isn’t too warm here yet (Michigan! NORTHERN Michigan!) so that has helped as well I’m sure

When I was pregnant I was not yet engaged, but I had a right hand ring that I wore (and still wear) all the time that my grandmother had given me for graduation. I knew there was a possibility of swelling during pregnancy, but I figured if the ring started to get too tight I would just take it off. Well, one day I woke up and the ring was so tight it was hurting my finger. I tried everything to get it off (dish soap, oil, lotion, etc) and the more I tried the more swollen my finger got. After about an hour I was on my way to the ER to get the ring cut off! Luckily, my grandmother had it fixed and re-gifted it to me that Christmas (after my son was born). I’m nervous about my next pregnancy though, because my ering is already a little snug. I might do what PP suggested and buy a different ring that’s a little bigger to wear on that finger while I’m pregnant so my finger doesn’t feel so naked!
