So we need to make a list of songs that we do not, under any circumstances whatsoever, want the DJ to play. I don’t care if they are requested.
So, bees, what songs do you hate that are always played at weddings?!
– Love Shack
– My Heart Will Go On

Cotton Eyed Joe – Rednex
Celebration – Kool & The Gang
We are Family – Sister Sledge

@vorpalette: Haha we had a pretty thorough Do Not Play list. One of the songs on there was We Are a Family … but my dad requested it. It was actually pretty funny, as the DJ got on the microphone and said he apologized to the bride but the guy writing the check wanted that song played, so he had to play it. I laughed, but still left the room so I wouldn’t have to hear it!

“Daughters” by John Mayer. I don’t understand people who use this for their Father Daughter dance. It’s about a dad who’s shitty and how that screws up his little girl’s future relationships!

@iarebridezilla: I’ve heard my dad say this a few times, “I have the checkbook.. I can request whatever song I want.”

@vorpalette: ooh I can’t stand any “choreographed” dance type songs a la Macarena, Electric Slide, Cotton Eyed Joe. :::shudder::: For the slow songs (since there usually aren’t many) you can give the DJ a list of “must play these 3-4 songs” and don’t allow him to choose any others.
I also think there is the category of “Good but Awkward” songs at weddings. Like Sweet Caroline for example. Its a great song, but if you’re playing all dance-y music, its just sort of thrown in there and the dance floor can clear out pretty quick.

Have to agree with “Love Shack” – it’s just soooo overplayed. I heard it at every school dance since 7th grade and have to hear it at every family party, reception, wedding, etc. I’m done with it! 🙂

@X0JLYNN03: Who was I to say no to Dad? Especially when he was doing this:
