  • throwing confetti and decorating cars with “just married” signs — Nope. We used the hotels Escalade to get away… for free!!!
  • carrying brides over threshold — Yep! We weren’t going to but Mr. Hedgie wanted to because, why not?

We did it all except the changing clothes at the end of the night, the group photo, and the drink before the ceremony. And I loved them all!

  • Throwing the bouquet of flowers — No
  • Best man speeches — Yes
  • Emotional first dance — Yes and No (We’re starting emotional and then doing a surprise fun dance!)

  • Party favors — Yes, yummy granola! We’re basically giving our guests two meals! πŸ™‚
  • Bouquet of flowers for mothers of bride and groom — No
  • Group photos — Um, not really. We’ll have a few family group photos, and that’s probably it.
  • Man proposing on one knee — I don’t think so.

And the ‘outdated traditions’

  • having a drink before walking down the aisle — Probably not. I want a clear head, and I’m not a big drinker anyway.
  • asking the bride’s father for permission — Yes, but mainly because my mom really wants this.
  • changing into going-away suits for honeymoons that immediately follows — No way! I want to wear my dress forever!
  • throwing confetti and decorating cars with “just married” signs — We’re doing sparklers, and the cars decorations are not up to us. πŸ™‚
  • carrying brides over threshold — No idea, Mr. P might give it a try.

  • changing into going-away suits for honeymoons that immediately follows — No, but only because we didn’t have a honeymoon immediately following πŸ™‚
  • throwing confetti and decorating cars with “just married” signs — Nope. Mother-In-Law did decorate our car when we left two days later for our road trip home, though.

  • Wedding: April 2012

The currently popular traditions…

  • Father walking bride down the aisle — Nope. It was either both of us being escorted by both parents or I walk down alone. I hate the idea of being “given away”.
  • Throwing the bouquet of flowers — I think so.
  • Best man speeches — Nope. We’re not having speeches. Brief toasts and a panel game played by the bridal party for everyoe else’s entertaiment.
  • Emotional first dance — Yes, then an amusing one that means even more to us.
  • Bride and groom cutting the cake — Yes, I’m baking it so I’m cutting it!
  • Signing a guest book — Not sure. Seems unlikely to work well.
  • Party favors — Yes, home-made fudge.
  • Bouquet of flowers for mothers of bride and groom — No. They’ll have corsages and gifts instead.
  • Group photos — Yes, why not?
  • Man proposing on one knee — No, he would have struggled to get up!

And the ‘outdated traditions’

  • having a drink before walking down the aisle — YES. Why is this “outdated”?
  • asking the bride’s father for permission — No, I told him if he did that I’d say no.
  • changing into going-away suits for honeymoons that immediately follows — No, we’re staying to the bitter end, then having another party the next day.
  • throwing confetti and decorating cars with “just married” signs — Possibly.
  • carrying brides over threshold — Nope! I’d kinda like it but his back is too bad to pick me up.
