I thought it would be fun to hear the origins of wedding traditions. I know there is some difference of opinion out there but I thought we could just all share what we heard or read.
Groomsmen: The groom and groomsmen dress alike so if an alternate suitor shows up to claim the bride by killing her groom, he can’t figure out which is the groom since they all look a like
Bride in White: Queen Victoria wore white so now we all do
Veil: arranged marriages, the bride was covered so the groom wouldn’t freak out and leave
Cutting the Cake: Symbolizes the idea that they would provide for each other. Literally feeding each other food
Garter Toss: wedding guest would follow the couple to the bridal suite to make sure what was supposed to happen happened. Crowds sometimes got a bit overzealous and would start removing articles of clothing from the bride so the groom started throwing her garter to appease the crowd
