My Fiance and I are finishing up our guest list and would like to have a small wedding (40-50 guests) about a year from now. We started looking for venues last week and can’t seem to find any that aren’t for hundreds of people. We really want something intimate and romantic and traditional wedding venues don’t seem to offer that for a wedding our size. We’re planning on having it in Phoenix, where we’ll be moving for my residency this Summer, so we’re open to outdoor ideas. If your wedding had/will have a similar guest count, where did you host it? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

We had 60-65 guests at our wedding. Technically our venue could hold 200. But honestly, you would NEVER guess that from the space. 200 would be really tightly packed in there. I wouldn’t discount a venue just because of thier max capacity.
It was actually nice to be able to have a good amount of space between tables and plenty of room for the dance floor. Nothing felt squished together. It really worked perfectly for us.

My wedding consists of 35-40 people and during my search, I found that a lot of “gardens” and museums on garden grounds offer nice packages in different areas of the garden that can accommodate anywhere from 20 people and up. So that may be an option
I also agree with a previous poster about not considering a place because it is advertised for a lot more people than you plan on having. That extra space will be appreciated. Im renting out two private rooms in a restaurant for my reception that are connected to eachother by glass/glass doors and one room has a max capacity of 100 while the other is 60. The 100 room will be great for holding everyone comfortably, cake table, sign in/presents table, projector etc etc. The other room will be for dancing! It has been a big relief not to have to worry about space and comfort.
