- Wedding: August 2012
We booked our venue through FI’s family friends – they own a restaurant. When we first spoke to them about the idea we went through our thoughts and they told us they would write us with a quote. We received the quote via email and it seemed more than reasonable so we went ahead with everything.
Suddenly, with only 6 months to go before the wedding they bring up an extra cost and want us to pay full price for liquor ($4 for a beer and $5 for mixed drinks/glass of wine) so that they can make a profit – I can understand where they are coming from since they are shutting down the restaurant for the day, but it seems sneaky and underhanded that they never mentioned this any of the other times we spoke to them. Especially when we didn’t budget for the extra money and I don’t feel comfortable doing a cash bar – I have been forced into agreeing to a ‘toonie’ bar (each drink is $2) with Fiance and I paying the difference.
My father was livid when he heard and suggested we just move the wedding (out of the question now that deposits have been placed with rental companys and the officant). But he is now demanding a contract so that they can’t keep adding extra costs to the venue. I know what goes in them and can wrap my mind around that, but does anyone have the right wording for this??? Or an example I can look at to see how they are laid out?
