So my hunni, has expressed his desire to exchange personal vows during our wedding. I am FREAKING out! I am not sure I will be able to articulate my feelings for him without sobbing. It’s bad enough that I will not have seen him for 6 months before our wedding. I’m thinking I should def start on this now.
Any other brides out their writing their own vows and super nervous about it?

Definitely do it even if you are nervous…. it was one of the best and most meaningful moments of our wedding and he blew me away with what he said. Even if I had completely blanked on my end of it, hearing him say what he did would have made it worth it.

I’m torn about what I want to do. I really do love the traditional vows that both of our parents exchanged but I also want (even though I am terrified of it) to express our personal promises to each other during our ceremony. We may do “promises” and both follow the same format and then exchange the traditional vows after that. Having a format for your vows/promises may help aleeve some of the nervousness of the process (at least that’s what I’m hoping).

Yes and no 🙂
We did a variation of the standard vows and then did “funny” vows that were personalized (“Do you promise to see U2 when they’re in town?”) 😀 I think it was a good combination of conventional and modern.

@jjmomma did you use anything like websites or books for inspiration?

We are doing traditional vows & writing our own as well. I like the idea of doing the traditional vows (well, actually, i like the idea of just saying ‘i do’ since it’s less likely that i’ll have a total emotional meltdown) but Fiance insisted on writing our own. I am trying not to stress about it, but it feels like so much pressure to say the perfect thing! I’ve looked at some other bee’s vows on here and did some googling, but at the end of the day, I just wrote how i feel about him. The wedding is next week, so we’ll see how it goes…. 🙂
