What about doing something smaller on Day 1 at your villa, like wine and charcuterie?  I know when I travel to Europe, I’m pretty beat upon arrival and not too hungry.  It would be nice to have the opportunity to lay low (or explore, for those who are more awake!) without any commitments on the first day.  Then, on Day 2, there could be the more formal meal when many of your guests are more acclimated to the time change.

I would do the welcome on day 2. If they have travelled quite far they may appreciate a night to themselves to settle in / sleep. You could do a really informal beers in the garden type thing for those who feel up to it, but save the more formal ‘welcome’ dinner for the next night.

I would do it Day 2. You don’t want the later arrivals to feel left out, especially since a lot of them are from your FI’s side.

The people arriving Day 1 will be fine and may also be grateful to be able to just relax the first night. I would give them suggestions on where to eat, that way they won’t be fending for themselves so much.
