My Fiance and I are looking to take a mini vacation the weekend after our October 1st wedding. Neither of us can take time off for a honeymoon until the summer due to work schedules, but we wanted to at least go away for the weekend together.
I’m looking for some suggestions for areas possibly in New England or anywhere on the East Coast within a reasonable driving distance from the Philly area of PA. Ideas?

Vermont would be beautiful in the fall and close by too. Amish country could be romantic. You could go to the shore although it might be more low key than in the summer. What about Atlantic City?

I do the philly/nj area commute to the New England area on a regular basis. If you are just taking a weekend, why not try Newport, RI. Summer is over, but the weather is still nice. Tons to do, fewer crowds, less expensive, etc. Plus, from the Philly/NJ area, depending on exactly where you are, you can drive here in between four to five hours. You are also super close to Providence (check the water fire schedule for fall) and are only a little over an hour from Boston (drive part way, park the car, and take the T the rest of the way in). There is so much to do in Newport, though, that you could spend the whole weekend there.
If you decide to stay more local, the New Hope, PA area is nice that time of year, too. Lots to do there and across the bridge in Lambertville, NJ, too.

Thanks for the suggestions! We are also considering the finger lakes too! Will look into these options!

- Wedding: May 2016 - St. John\'s Lutheran Church
The Berkshires are about a five-hour drive from you, and beautiful.

My fiancé and I did a weekend getaway at the best hotel in our own city after I was getting stressed with school. No work, no family, no nothing but us and whatever the hell we wanted to do. It’s one of the best weekends of my life. We had not a care in the world.
