I just got back from the post office. I went there today to send our three international invitations so that they would get a head-start on the remaining 174 domestic invitations that I plan to mail on Friday.
Thank GOODNESS that I am OCD. I stopped by the self-service mail center before I put the envelopes in the drop box to weigh them and make sure that they required the same 90 cents they needed when I sent the Save-The-Date Cards. Lo and behold, they needed $1.80! And when I re-weighed an invite using a domestic zip code, it showed that I needed 58 cents! Now, this wouldn’t be so terrible except that I spent SIX HOURS on Sunday sorting, stuffing and sticking 41 cent Tiffany stamps on 174 invitations.
So, I went up to the counter and ordered 17 cent stamps to make up the difference. I am NOT thrilled with having two stamps on all the invitations (especially since they have a ram’s head on them). The silver lining is that one of my college’s mascots is a ram, so it’s kind of cute … but not really.
So, please do not make the same mistake that I did. Even if you think your invitation does not weigh much, put it on the scale — before stamping — just in case.
