sostobe: We both definitely understand this, I haven’t even gained that much yet and I think I might have even lost some fat in the early weeks based on how little the scale has moved because I’ve definitely put on a lot of fluid, just based on my tummy swell. I had also gained 10 lbs during infertility treatments that I’m not sure was actual fat or just bloat/hormone issues that went away early in pregnany too.
We both know full well that what my body looks like during pregnancy has little bearing on how it will look after pregnancy for these reasons. Honestly, the conversation never even lasted long enough (because it really was just a single passing comment in a larger conversation) but I think DH’s thought wasn’t even really in regard to true pregnancy related gain, but more ordinary weight gain that happened to come on simultaniously due to poor choices during pregnancy. I don’t think the weigth gained by Baby and “accessories” (like placenta, amneotic fluid, etc) aren’t what he was thinking aboutbut more large amounts of actual oredinary fat on top of those pregnancy related gains.
Really, he just wants to help me make healthy choices, and not fall into the trap that some pregnant women do of “I’m pregnant, so I can eat everything in site and be lazy just because”. Which really isn’t my personality anyway, but it was one thought that crossed his mind so he shared it, it’s far from any kind of “big issue” for either of us.
Pollywog: Haha, I love that he got you extra cupcakes! My Darling Husband brought me home cinnamon rolls yesterday because he was leaving early for a fishing trip and wanted to make sure I had a yummy breakfast to enjoy without him (since we usually have breakfast together on Sundays after church). Pretty much his only comments about my eating habits have been on days when he’s worried I haven’t eaten enough (because nothing sounds good or I feel sick) and he’ll ask me to start naming any and everything that might be good and he’ll make it to see. The other day all I really ate was about 1/2 a loaf of bread with butter and spicy halibut broth because it was the only thing that sounded good. He was worried that it wasn’t enough calories, but then the next day I ended up eating tons so he relaxed a bit and realized that it’ll all work out in the end.
