I’m not pregnant, but I just wanted to point out that I gain/loose 4 lbs in one DAY depending on whether I’ve worked out, how much water I’ve had, if I ate a taco, etc. The NP is crazy pants.

Tmpalm:  I sure do! And he only weighed 6 lbs at birth so I can’t blame my “excess” weight gain on him. I gained 35 lbs, which is the upper limit of healthy, but I obviously WAS healthy, and so was he, so I never worried about that- I just didn’t like feeling fat. I remember all too well the mood swings. Once I didn’t gain any weight at all between appointments and felt like a rock star. Then the next one I had gained, like, six pounds in two weeks. Remember that a lot if the weight is fluid, placenta, blood volume, etc.

MattieK:  So true. And you can retain fluid like crazy while pregnant.

Tmpalm:  I would seriously complain about someone telling you that. I’ve always read in the second and third trimesters, a pound a week is normal weight gain. So 4 pounds in a month….sounds like you’re doing everything right? 1-5 pounds in the first trimester is normal, then a pound a week, so that puts you right around where you are! There is just no reason anyone at your doctor’s office should be shaming you for normal, healthy weight gain during pregnancy!!!!

That is ridiculous,  you are doing just fine!! My OBs never said a single word about my weight (43lbs) or my friends (60+). You know what, I worked out almost all of my pregnancy and ate relatively reasonably (ate when hungry, didnt go wild “eating for two”) and despite all that I still gained 43lbs. I gained 3lbs one week!

I lost about 25lbs between baby, placenta, and water weight the first 2 weeks alone. I really believe as long as you don’t go crazy your body does what it needs to do and it is out of your control. And you know what… I lost the rest without any real effort whatsoever!

Some of those NP’s can be down right rude! I understand it is their job to inform people of the dangers and complications that can arise in pregnancy but they act like you aren’t aware. The best is when the SUPER Obese nurse tells you that your weight is concerning and that you should watch what you eat more carefully and stay away from fatty foods because she’s the PERFECT advocate for a healthy diet. Mind you I’m 5’7 148 pre-pregnancy was 35 weeks and only gained 14lbs at this point. I was BEYOND pissed off! I delivered at 38 & 2 and only gained 19lbs throughout the whole pregnancy. Don’t sweat a few extra pounds.

Dont worry. That much is fine.

I was 5’5 and weighed about 121 when I got pregnant. I was also a professional dancer. I had some bleeding right away so was put on bed rest and couldnt excercise for my first trimester. And I was never sick and felt hungry all the time!

I gained 60 lbs! I was in a different country and a lot of things were out of my control so I am sure I wont gain as much for the next pregnancy (plus I will keep on exercising) but my OB had no problem with it.

My daughter weighed 7 lbs. She is very very healthy. Super smart and active. And I have lost all the weight. Good luck.
