I’m diabetic. When I found out – I went on the “South Beach” diet – no sugars, no carbs, low fat.  Dropped 50 pounds real quick.

Lookin’ good, lady!

  1. Don’t drink your calories. Do water or diet sodas and limited skim milk (for calcium, vit D).  No juice, sugared drinks/coffees.
  2. Fill up on veggies (go light on butter or oil) and fruit.
  3. Eat protein, but not excessively.
  4. Eat to live, don’t live to eat.

My Fiance and I were doing great in terms of eating well and working out…then we both fell off the wagon and have had a difficult time finding that motivation again Undecided

A few days ago I decided that it was time to get our finances in order so I signed up for Mint.com.  That in itself was a huge wake-up call, to actually assign a dollar amount to what we spent eating out, I was disgusted.  To see the monetary cost and relate it to how our bodies were feeling was the kick in the pants we needed! 

 

1) Healthy, balanced and home-made meals 

2) 2-3 food groups on the plate 

3) Water!  

4) Eating at regular intervals and not eating before bed (I wait two hours min before I go to sleep)

5) variety in what we eat- different types of veg, fruit, proteins, and grains 

6) Read labels 

7) I also try to mix up my work-outs (one day yoga, the next Jillian Michaels, etc) 

 

Lastly, I try to really listen to my body, when I’m hungry, full, thirsty, tired, etc.

Track what you eat. There are some great online tools. I can kinda be a pain, but it always works for me. Obviously, it helps me keep my calorie content where I want, but I really think just the act of writing down all the food you eat and the calories contained makes you more concious of what you eat and naturally helps you eat better.

Mix one tablespoon of good quality apple cider vinegar with a glass of water and drink it before you eat – it will help your metabolism kick in faster. (:

First of all- you look GREAT! Congrats on all the weight you’ve dropped so far- it’s a big difference and you look fab 🙂

My biggest advice is to plan your meals. When you don’t do this, you might resort to eating whatever’s fast/easy/lying around, and that can mean trouble. Stock up on fruit, veggies, yogurt, and other healthy snacks for when you’re at working/studying/commuting. Track what you eat on SparkPeople or something similar. Drink at LEAST 8 glasses of water a day. When you’re hungry, drink a glass of water first. Wait 10 minutes. If you’re still hungry then, eat. When you eat meals and feel that you want seconds, LEAVE THE TABLE! Go for a walk, do something active. It takes your mind 10-20 minutes to catch up with your stomach. If you’re still hungry after those 10-20 minutes, you eat something else. Most of the time, though, the walking/exercise will be a distraction, and/or your mind will realize that your belly is full.

@Beijocanaboca:  ugggh i hear you. i JUST threw a baby shower for a coworker this afternoon, and i made all these delicious desserts for it… i ate several extras because they were just THERE looking pretty and tasty. i finally followed my own advice and left the room. better late than never haha!
