@OttawaBride2011: When I joined the first time I only wanted to lose 20lbs. And there were MANY others like me in that boat. Some who were joining up with even less to lose.

Good luck!

I wanted to lose 30 when I first joined. (And I did!)

But there were others there who only wanted to lose 10.

It’s a great program for everyone, whether you want to lose 5, 50, 100.

It teaches you how make better choices at every meal, everyday. So everyone can benefit.

When I first joined I just wanted to see if I could lose 30#, by the time I made goal I’d lost over 75#.  There are people of all sizes/weights/ages at WW.  It’s a struggle to lose any ammount of weight.  Some people with less to lose have complained that they get looks or comments from heavier folks, but that’s no reason not to go for it.  Those people can suck a lemon.

When I joined I just started with what they recommended at that time (10% of your current body weight). Now I think they start with an even smaller goal, of 5% of your total body weight to start out with. That way the weight loss is attainable and measureable, and then you can go on to set a different small goal after you meet that one.

I ended up losing 40 lbs on the plan and and felt great. I got into a healthy weight range and now live an active, healthy lifestyle of my own, without Weight Watchers. I’ve kept the weight off too!

I’m planning on losing 35 by the wedding and another 15-20 after that.

The first time I joined, about 10 years ago, I only had 20 lbs to lose. I’m a lot bigger now than I was then.

@OttawaBride2011: Thanks! The thing is, I find that it’s much easier to lose weight when you have more to lose. When I was only 20 lbs overweight, it was a lot harder to lose the 20 lbs. Now that I’m about 50 lbs overweight, the pounds are falling off much easier.

@OttawaBride2011: People tell me I don’t “need” to lose weight either (5’8″ 166lbs) but I WANT to and I KNOW I feel better at a lower weight. You may continue to get some comments like that, but you will not be alone.

I think the WW message boards even have a board for those who have “less to lose” i.e. around 20lbs or so to support those specific members.

When I first joined WW when I was 20 lbs overweight, sometimes I thought that the heavier members at meetings were giving me dirty looks, like “Why is SHE here?” I was probably paranoid, though.

I wish I could’ve worn a sign that says “I may look okay, but my BMI is off the charts!”

Yeah, I think I was just imagining things.

I hated the meetings anyway, though. I much prefer doing things online. Their online tools are fantastic.

And we are having our own mini-meeting right here anyway!

@OttawaBride2011: Yeah, I recall that kind of attitude towards a few people at the meetings with less to lose.

After I moved in with my fiance (now DH) I gained back 10 pounds. So I started WW again last fall to get in shape for the wedding. But this time, I did it online.

The e-tools were GREAT. I didn’t bother with meetings. And if you have an iPhone, e-tools comes with a free app. It’s awesome! Super easy to track your points on the go and lots of points values for restaurants and foods.

So you don’t necessarily even need to go to meetings. I found all the support I needed on the WW messageboards.
