New to weddingbee and just wanting to know if any ladies are trying to lose weight before getting engaged? I’m 5’5 and I’m bigger than I’ve ever been (about the same size I was when I gave birth to my almost 5 year old) I weigh 173lbs and really wanting to get in shape becaue i want to get close to my old I’d be satisfied to be around 125-139.
Anyone else trying to lose about 40+lbs? Maybe we can help keep eachother motivated!!

I just went yesterday with my beau to have my antique ring dropped off to be made into my engagement ring! It will be done in mid-March. I am *almost* at my high weight, I am 5’4″ weigh 145-150lbs at the moment and I CANNOT be this weight for engagement pictures, and DEFINITELY NOT to be married! There is a picture of us on the fridge where I weigh 115lbs a few years ago at a wedding, and I look great there, but I would take 125lbs. I decided today I would BUCKLE DOWN, watch my calories, and start looking into a gym membership.

@Dorian5: I was thinking the exact same way i was tiny before I had my son and got small around the time he was 1 but then moved to Kentucky with no friends, family other thn my son and no car so we sat at home. I made the impulsive plunge to get a treadmill and still haven’t gotten my fat butt on it yet but today I will do 1-2 miles. Have you thought of getting a treadmill or exercie bike if you have room for it? Hopefully we can help motivate eachother!!

@bjgr232: I am in the exact same scenario. I am probably getting engaged in the next 3 months and want to finally shed some weight I’ve gained so I feel like a million bucks during that whole exciting time.
Im trying to lose 23 lbs, already lost 5 in 2 weeks thanks to Weight Watchers which I love and am sticking with!

@bjgr232: In March of 2013, I did not recognize myself in the mirror 🙁 I felt and ‘looked’ horrible, weighing in at my heaviest since the onset of our relationship. I realized in that moment I had lost my spark, my overall mood was terrible (due to lack of energy I am sure), and my confidence had dwindled. All of which had a terrible effect on my relationship, of which I did not realize (hindsight is 20/20) 🙂
And so began my drive to a better me, and I worked to improve me. We had talked about marriage, and I guess I was ‘waiting’ at that point, but A (healthier lifestlye) had nothing to do with B (a potential marriage). In fact, I thought it would be another year or so from that point before I had a proposal.
Well, determination and motivation paid off. Before I knew it, I was stronger than ever, and down about 25 lbs. My attitude changed for the better, and we were better as a couple. He proposed in June, much to my surprise!! And now, my motivation during this hard winter is being driven by our nuptials sent in May. Although I have reached a terrible plateau, I am still working out hard and feeling strong. I am down about 35 lbs, and would like to see an additonal 10-15 by May.

@bjgr232: Yes!!! I started working out really hardcore about 3 weeks ago. SO got me a trainer for Christmas, so that helped me get on the right track. I am about 3 pounds down and hoping to lose at LEAST 15 before SO pops the question. I have no idea when it will happen, so I am just trying to lose it as fast as possible! My main goal is to shed 30 pounds.

Not quite. I’m already engaged but definitely in the fitness boat if you want a buddy! My wedding is in May 2015 and since meeting Fiance I have put on about 70 pounds that I’m hoping to lose by then. I started 13 days ago (two weeks tomorrow!) and have lost 8.5 pounds through a combination of Weight Watchers and exercise.

My SO and I have been talking about getting engaged. I’m thinking it will happen sometime around April. That is one of my motivators, but honestly it’s mainly because I really needed to lose the weight and was not happy with myself. I’m also turning 30 and had always promised myself that I would be healthy by then. I don’t want to carry my weight into a new decade!

I lost around 40 pounds prior to getting engaged and none since. It is so frustrating!! My wedding is 46 days a way now and I’d like to lose 10 pounds.

I have a lot to lose (at least 100 pounds, hoping for even more) and am trying to lost 75 by October, because we are getting engaged sometime this summer and want to have fall pictures done. I started 4 weeks ago and have lost 16 pounds by just dieting. Now, I have added spin classes and a nutritionist to my plan and I’m hoping to see more and more fly off! Getting engaged soon has been a great motivator for me and then the wedding coming after will only fuel my drive to keep at it 🙂 Good luck to you all!

I am also trying to lose weight before I get engaged. The proposal won’t be coming until at least September at the earliest, so I’ve got some time. I started on January 8th at my highest ever weight of 185 pounds (I’m 5’4″.) So far I am down 7.5 pounds. I’m happy to see the numbers moving, but can’t wait til I start seeing more of a difference in how my clothes fit. My ultimate goal is 135, which is the weight I was when I met my Boyfriend or Best Friend 4 years ago. But for now I’m really just focused on getting under 150 because that is the point where I feel a lot more comfortable with my body.

Yesssss!!! The thought of getting engaged within the next year or so has really motivated me to get serious about fitness. I’m not really concerned with a number because my main goal is to replace a good chunk (pun intended) of my body fat with muscle. I’ve been alternating yoga and pilates classes with cardio and weight training 3-4 days a week for the past month and while I haven’t noticed a substantial result yet I’m loving how it makes me feel! Focusing on my fitness and scheduling my workouts also keeps me from dwelling on “waiting”, which is wonderful. Diet is what I struggle most with – I have ZERO self-control when it comes to certain sweets and snacks. I purposely avoid buying “unhealthy” snacks for this reason but SO has been bringing soooo much junk food into our apartment lately. Ugh.
Stay strong, ladies! Fitness is a lifestyle and a lifelong journey and the hardest part – starting – is behind many of us already!

I am also on a weightloss journey that plateau about 6 months ago and an impending engagment has gotten me motivated to lose some more… I dont mind sharing this but January of last year, I was at my heaviest at 272, crazy! It was then that i knew that I needed to start working out and eating better. I lost 40 by May 2013, and through bar study and a new job, and the holidays, I gained 10 lbs. I started to work out again and eat better on 1/12/14 and currently down 5.2lbs. My goal is to be healthy, but if I had to put a number on it, that would be 175. Which means I have 63lbs to go by August (my expected proposal month), which is more than doable! So OP, I am with you!! Lets loose this weight before getting proposed to!!

@bjgr232: I am already engaged, but when I suspected it was coming I started working on losing weight and getting in shape. I wanted to feel better about myself and therefore be happier, thus upping the likelihood that my SO (now FI) would propose, since when I’m not happy with my looks I can be not so fun to be around.
Unfortunately because of a rough grad school semester, I gained the weight back– only 2-4 pounds, but I’m 5’1″ and I had gotten very fit and muscular over the summer, meaning that I had a good deal of muscle weight that got replaced with fat. 😛 I’m working on losing a lot (for me) now– about 10 lbs. I want to feel thin, not just small but a little pudgy!

I am already engaged, but just wanted to say, good for you! I wish I’d done that! Yet here I am, 3 months from the big day and having to haul ass to lose it. Thankfully I don’t have that much to lose (I’ll be happy with 10 lbs, though would love to be closer to 20), but still — would have been a heck of a lot easier if I’d gotten on the ball sooner!
