Ok so I had no intention of doing this at first… but Im starting to stress out really bad on our budget.. and I found a website that is selling a dress that I may buy, in my size for about 1/2 the price. Its been worn and I would make sure its cleaned… but is that weird or am i just being silly?

no it’s not weird at all, i would be super hesitant to buy something so big sight unseen. what site did you find it on? do you have a link to the actual dress posting? and make sure it’s something you really love! you don’t want to settle for something just cuz you found a good deal.

My sister bought a second-hand dress (the exact one she dreamt of buying) from a girl off of Craigslist. Best decision she ever made. She paid $500 CAD to get it professionally cleaned, but that cost plus what she bought it for was nowhere near what the original price would’ve been.
It had stains on the bottom where people had spilled drinks on it, but it all came out at the cleaners and looked brand new.
So I don’t think it’s a silly idea at all!

No. If it is the same dress that you like and you have already tried it on, and know it is the size you need or close enough I think it is smart! -And you know that it is in great shape.) If you’d like, I may also be able to help you find some other budget saving ideas. Feel free to pm me, or email me @ [email protected] I don’t mind helping if I can. 🙂

@eseds: I honestly had the same dillemma a month ago. I knew I wanted a Maggie Sottero Vienna, which costs a little over $1300 in the local bridal salon. I found a “preloved” one that was exactly was I needed online and came SO close to buying it.. all I needed to do was transfer the payment. In the end, though, I couldn’t do it. You can never tell what you’re going to get when you buy something online, and in my opinion buying a wedding dress that you’ve never seen in person and that doesn’t come from an authorized retailer is just too much of a risk.
Someone did mention to me (after I’d already bought my dress!) that some bridal shops will consider offers.. although you most likely wouldn’t be able to get tham to go half off…
If you do decide to go online, though… it seems that the site you found the dress on is the best way to go, if you use Escrow.com. From what i’ve heard, they offer a good amount of protection–they hold the money until you get the dress, and will give you a set amount of time to inspect it, and when you decidethat you are satisfied with the quality, the payment is processed.
As far as actually buying a used dress, I don’t think that’s weird at all as long as you do have it professionally cleaned first.
