OK, this is not a tragedy or anything but could use some advice.
About a week ago I wore a bra I hardly ever wear. It’s not my favorite and it’s kind of a cheapo bra. Wore it all day. Before bed I take off my bra put on my sleep clothes and it’s a tank top and I notice I have a DARK brown spot on my shoulder exactly where the strap is. IT WAS NOT THERE IN THE MORNING I DEVELOPED THIS IN ONE DAY!! I have dark olive skin, and whenever I have any type of cut, burn, or scarring in general it is always bad especially in the beginning. I’m convinced it’s from that crappy bra I wore. It doesn’t hurt or anything so I totally think the strap somehow chafed my skin.
Ok. So my dress is strapless and I’m trying to get rid of this. It’s noticeable – it’s like over an inch long. Like I said, it’s not a tragedy and if it doesn’t go away I will just put on my happy face and pretend it’s not there, but I’d like to get rid of it. My friend suggested body makeup but that just seems like a recipe for disaster wearing a white dress.
I’ve been putting Aquaphor on it twice a day, improvement has been minimal. Any suggestions? I’m a month out 🙁

Do you think it’s going to take more than a month to heal?? How bad is it – maybe post a pic? I would put baby powder on it – doesn’t that help chafing generally?

@kimm99: The fact that the marks are still there a week later concerns me. I’d probably go see the GP or a dermatologist or at the very least go to a TakeCare Clinic or similar.

@kimm99: For some reason if I go tanning it makes my scars less noticeable. If you just go for a few minutes here and there you shouldn’t get too dark or weird looking from it.
Also try some type of antichaff agent… like gold bond? Maybe it will help to soothe it away.

Cera Ve it will be near the Aquaphor and it is a great mousterizer all around. It is recommended for everything from dry skin to severe skin conditions so I am sure this will help you. I totally understand your qualms as I bruise easy too this stuff works. It is like 15 for a jar but it will last you forever and would be a great idea to use on your face as a daily mousterizer too. Hope it Helps!

It’s not an injury that needs to “heal” it’s a skin discoloration due to irritation/chafing – I’m not concerned that I need to see a doctor. I’m not sure if you guys have darker skin or not but it has to do with the skin being irritated and because I have a lot of pigment in my skin what might be a little redness on a pale person becomes a dark mark that takes weeks to fade. Maybe I need some sort of fade cream.

@kimm99: If you happen to have any type of corticosteroid cream on hand it should take care of it as well as moisturizing. I get weird rashes and allergies under my armpits and on my side boobs from chafing and with dexamethasone it goes away in about four ir five days! I’m olive skinned toned too 🙂 and hate that healing from something takes a month because once the scab is off you have this dark brown spot there.

How strange. Did you notice whether it had metal clasps? I have to be really careful to grab ones with plastic, and sometimes the cheapo bras have metal pieces that give me a reaction to the nickel.

@kimm99: Ugh. Sorry to hear that. I have a mark from a bra similiar to yours. Our skin tones are the same as well. I used Mederma and a spot lightener from Origins on mine for a good six months. Exfoliated it daily. Its 9 months post wedding and its still there. 🙁 Tell your make-up artist and they can cover it up.
