So I am driving into work this morning. I live in Ontario. Speed Limit is 90km/hr. This driver is going 80 with a huge gap in front of him and he keeps speeding up and then slowing down. There was a line of frustrated drivers behind him.
So there is weird driver doing this then 2 cars then myself. There is a gap in traffic to the right lane and one by one we all get over to pass this guy. So car 1 goes around and gets back in front of him. Then car 2. Well he has figured out we are all going around him because we deem him to be going too slow. So I put my signal on to now enter the left lane again and be in front of him and he speeds up! He is now not allowing me in and is actually speeding to prevent this.
So I back off, he eases off the gas and I have just enough room to get in front of him now and pass him. Put my signal on again and the second I do that he speeds up again. Because of the car in front of me and him speeding up to not let me in I am stuck…meanwhile other 2 cars have passed him and are ahead now happily away from this moron.
So this time I turn my signal off, he eases off and when there is a gap I start moving over and quickly turn on my signal so I give him less response time to speed up. It works, I am in but as I was merging he attempted to block me by speeding up then he had to slam his breaks on cause I was already more then halfway in the lane.
Well he laces his horn at me, whatever.
But then awhile down the road he catches up at an exit and as he is exiting north and I am going south (two lanes completely dividing and going opposite ways) he rolls down his window, sticks his phone out the window and I points it at me. He must have been taking a video or picture of my car/license plate.
I am now concerned this creep is going to do something. What the hell was this about?

I HATE when people do that! I experience it on the highway every morning as well. Even if he took your license plate and called the cops, they won’t do anything about it. You passed up a guy going too slow. He’s the one who was driving like an idiot. Don’t sweat it! However, I’d be more worried about him finding where you live and what your name is from the plate, people are just too weird anymore.

@JemmyGee: Ya I thought about this but I live in a secure highrise with security and underground parking so its not like a house he can drive by and slice my tires. Do people really do this? I mean where I live having a cellphone in your hand while driving is an offence, so he just broke the law trying to take a picture of my car. This is the first time I have ever experienced someone doing this…scary!

If anything you would be the one to report him for reckless driving

I hate drivers who do that! My FI and I were commuting this morning in the right lane and there was an ambulance pulled over on the right shoulder. In our state, you have to move 1 lane over for emergency vehicles, so we did. The lady in the center lane tried to speed up to block us and threw up her hands in disgust when we got into her lane. Yes, how dare we pull in front of her with plenty of space ahead. We were also going 10mph over the limit already, so it’s not like we were slowing things down. Some drivers just pay attention to themselves and nobody else. Anyway, even if he took a pic, the cops will likely just take the tip and do nothing about it. It’s really he who should be given tickets for his aggressive driving.

@missjewels: that’s good! I doubt he would try to come find you but you never know anymore, but at least you live in a very secure place! And here in Ohio, having your cell phone out while driving is a HUGE problem and if he even did go to the police about this, he would get a ticket for using his cell while driving and probably a reckless driving ticket as well for taking a picture. And I take the highway to work and school and there is always some bozo who is going the speed limit in the fast lane and when you try to pass them, they decide they’d like to go faster until you back off.

i hate when people play games on the highway. it is so dangerous.
one time a person wouldn’t let me move over to exit. he slowed when i slowed to go behind him, then sped up when i tried to get in front of him. i didn’t even do anything to incite this behavior.
it was a very long exit ramp. in the end, i couldn’t take it and went to the next exit to go home. a few miles out of my way, but i’m glad i didn’t have to share the next road with that jerk.

@missjewels: Obviously this is stereotyping, but was he middle-aged?? I’ve noticed men ages 40-65 are most guilty of this. It makes me CRAZY! And you didn’t do anything wrong. Even if he did report to the police, you have nothing to worry about 🙂

@missjewels: I live in Ontario too.. I don’t know what it is with the drivers here.. All I do I when people do that stuff to me is flash my lights at them (to make sure they know they are being annoying, and are going too slow, BUT I don’t always do this though.. it depends on the driver infront of me, because I know this pisses people off haha.. If its a 250 pound 6’4 looking guy I dont do it lol ) and I try my best to pass them as you did. As unsafe as it is to go over the limit, its just a unsafe to go under it.
Odds are theres nothing he can do with the possible cell video he took, its illegal here to use your phone when you drive remember. So if he goes to the cops he’ll also be getting himself in trouble.

@OnceUponATime: Yes it was. And he was in a company vehicle. I googled the company and I think he owns his own business so its not a big company I can call and complain about. But yeah he was about 45.

jeez! what a psycho! i had a similar situation happen to me just two days ago except that i actually had to flip the girl off. She was going soo slow, wouldnt let me pass her, got in my lane when i tried to pass her, made me slam on my breaks, and she break checked me!
How do people not understand slower traffic keep right!!

@Stephville: Can he report me for reckless driving or something. I am just so concerned some cop is going to show up on my doorstep or something.
@OnceUponATime: YES. Especially when they’re in luxury vehicles–around here it’s BMW and Lexus. Douchebags.
A friend of mine posted an infographic about this the other day. Where people drive slowly in the left lane. The left lane on the highway is for passing–you are NOT supposed to drive in the left lane. Stay on the right unless you’re passing someone. It also had a thing about doing what this guy did, which is very dangerous and can cause traffic backups (or worse).

Something similar happened to me a few years ago. I don’t think I did anything to piss off the driver, but he was break checking me and zipping in and out of traffic to stay in front of me. It was extremely scary and lasted more than a few minutes. It was dangerous, so I got on the phone (before using a cell phone in the car was against the law) and called 911. Once the guy saw me on the phone, he got off at the next exit.
OP- You did absolutely nothing wrong. I don’t think anything is going to come from this, especially because it can’t be proved you “did anything wrong”.

@missjewels: WEIRDO! Good ole Ontario drivers!! And people wonder why our inruance rates are so high in this province and its because of wackos like that on the road! I wouldnt worry about it…first off how can he show that video if its against the law in our province to use a handheld device while driving? HE would be dumb to do that!
