We got our puppy neutered, and at first everything looked fine. Now I have noticed that it still looks like he has balls. However, they look like deflated balls that are not nearly as big as before, but the skin is certainly still there. I totally realize this is a weird question, but I am wondering if my vet did something wrong or if this is normal. I assumed, perhaps wrongly, that it would all be removed and left without a trace.
I have called the vet, but he hasn’t returned my call yet :-

@MrsPanda99: Skin stretches…the deflated skin you’re seeing is just a result of stretching. Give it time and it’ll go back to normal. Nothing to worry about :).

They only remove the insides, not the actual um…sack.

give it a few weeks and the skin should go back to normal.
this is very normal.
as PP said, the skin is just stretched.

Yup. My dog was just neutered about 2 weeks ago too — he still has the sack, but it will shrink over time.

lol Now I have one of those joke songs from a radio station stuck in my head.
Scrotum, scrotum, it’s my wrinkly dinkly bag of skin…
Scrotum, scrotum, it’s the sack I keep my testes in
I had to share!

Thanks, ladies. Man, it looks gross. I’m glad it’s “normal” though, lol.

He will always have a little bit there, because he was older when he was neutered. Most vets just remove the testicles but they can remove the skin too if it really bothers you, but it is no big deal to your dog.

Lol, I had this same thought when our guy got fixed. Plus he was still all crazy and energetic (they always say fixing calms them down, not in his case), I swear for a while I thought they left one in there!
I think it was about 6 months before he was completely back to normal looking, though I don’t really remember. After a while I didn’t notice.

We just had our boy neutered, he’s over a year old, and the fluid retention was so bad after the surgery — that I almost called the vet to be like: “Are you SURE you neutered him?!” but after talking with some friends I realized that the swelling and the left over skin are normal and go away with time.

My cat still looks like he has balls even though I know for a fact that he does not. It is gross.
