I know it’s a weird quesiton – but I’ve always been careful to plan my doctor visits around AF. Except this time, I can’t avoid it and now I have an appointment next week smack in the middle of AF. I’ve been having trouble TTC and don’t want to wait another three months to see my doctor if I have to reschedule. It seems sorta gross, but I might be able to will myself through it. Just wondering if any of you have had to do this and if it’s as bad as I imagine in my head?

I have had a pap smear during AF. I called ahead and asked if it mattered and they said nope. I dont know if that is different though since you are TTC and need to know if your body is cycling properly. For my pap i had abnormal cervix cells so thats all they needed to look at.

i did once. it was on a lighter flow day. i had a tampon in. when gyn came in the room to start the exam, she asked if she could take the tampon out, i said yes. then i put one in right after the appointment was over.

Is it your initial consultaTion? Im going to assume shes just going to order bloods maybe an ultrasound or hsg. Im not sure what they typically do, but im going to assume she doesnt need to go looking all up in your bits yet. If in doubt call the receptionist and ask.

I always schedule my appts a year in advance so I never know if I’ll be on it or not but I have been a couple times and it’s fine. She likely won’t even need to examine you.

My doctor does a pap smear every other year now, so this year when I was able to call and make my appointment, I double checked cos it may fall within that week (I may be having it that week). I have never asked if that mattered, but may have to just in case it happens next year when I need that exam.

I work with doctors and it doesn’t matter. Don’t feel uneasy about it at all. They don’t care.

Thanks for the great feedback, ladies! I feel better about going next week!

I have. My doctor requested that I not take out my tampon before hand and let them do it. Idk why though. I had some abnormal cells but it seemed to be due to AF. All was fine.

I got my IUD inserted during my time of the month. It was a little awkward, but it went ok, thankfully! My doctor didn’t make a big deal out of it, I’m sure they’ve seen worse!

Ha! Yeah – I keep trying to remind myself that these docs deliver babies…so they’re probably used to some, stuff going on in that area. 😉 Thanks for sharing.
