The weirdest comment I got was “your ring looks expensive, your husband must be a white man!” Background: I’m Chinese and Fiance and I are both expats in Abu Dhabi. The locals and westerners tend to be more well off than the filipino, Indian and pakistani workers.

geekychinchilla:  thanks she insisted it was a cube zirconia ring but it was a sapphire, a purple sapphire. but she worked in a jewlery store so she must know.. jj. lol. but odd to do it at my wedding. i used to date her boyfriend so maybe there was some jealousy. they broke up months later.

Got married last year in October, most people didnt have much to say because I had a simple 1 carat cushion cut  solitaire with a 2mm band whis is wnat I wanted.  I thought it was beautiful and still think it is beautiful.  I did get a few compliments, but they were mostly from people who had rings that were smaller than mine.

Most of my compliments have come now that I have all my stackable bands on with my e-ring.  I get compliments all of the time now..

Your ring is prettty and to be honest its not to small nor is it to big it looks perfect on your finger, so don’t worry about what people say because you never know the motivation behind what they are saying.  and what matters most is the love that you share with the man that gave you the ring.

I haven’t gotten reactions to my original ring but my new e ring did get one weird reaction from someone I know, when she noticed it her eyes got really wide and she said “wow”, picked up my hand and said wow again but louder. It was like she was shocked or something but it wasn’t a good shocked it was more like a confused “how did you afford this” type of look.

My ring is a 1 ct Moissy solitaire with diamonds embedded in  the band and she couldn’t tell that it wasn’t diamond, I didn’t mention it because she didn’t ask and I was already feeling weird and out of place.

After about 30 seconds of staring in disbelief for some reason she said “it’s very nice”.  She’s very career driven, late 30’s no s/o or kids although she wants a family. I’m in my late 20’s, a mom, and just getting established. Either way, it was still very weird.

I got a “wow that’s huge! Do you think you’re worth all that?!” comment from a coworker. That was awkward.

Mostly I got a ‘wow! It’s so pretty!’ but there was one random chick who asked me if the stone was a real diamond, and when I replied, yes, it is, she asked me if I was sure my Fiance wasn’t lying to me, because everyone knows blue diamonds don’t exist. *facepalm*

ren89:  I’ve gotten the same types of comments about my sapphire. It’s a custom made 2ct natural untreated flawless stone set in platinum with flawless diamond pave- the stone cost more than an equally sized (in mm not ct) diamond!! But I’ve had people say, “so will you upgrade to a diamond in the future?” or “is it so you can have a bigger stone for less money?”

Congratulations! I think your ring is gorgeous! My center stone is an aquamarine, and I often get something along the lines of “it’s pretty, but didn’t you want a diamond?” NO, otherwise I would have one. The other one is “wow, it’s blue! Crazy! That’s not a diamond, though.” Oh really, I wasn’t aware. Thanks for clearing that up.

Point being, other people don’t need to like your ring. What matters is that you and your future hubby love it. If it doesn’t align with the tastes of your friends, who cares?

When I showed my boss my ring (after she asked to see it!) I got a response of “Oh…nice…”

I also had a friend rant to me about how she would never want a diamond because of x,y,z and then say “Oh but your ring is nice”

To dang girl he did good! To boy you deserve it For all the stuff he put you through! ive also gotten my ring is beautiful and that’s a lot of bling! My wedding band is vintage style and one of my coworkers was like it looks like weed plants on there Referring to the cut designs on it. I was like geez thanks! I take it all in and let it roll because who knows why they say what they say and I am not wasting energy to find out! Lol

geekychinchilla:  I love your ring! I am normally all about very plain solitairs and not so much bling, but yours is just stunning!

I live in Western Europe, got engaged in one country and later moved to another. We did not actually purchase the ering as mostly people don’t wear it after the wedding and us being young and paying for the wedding we decided it will be a waste of money.  In the first country everyone was asking me where was the ring. In the second noone ever did because it is not common at all to have egagement rings.

coffeedrinker:  MY sapphire is untreated too and people typically dont know what it is at first. The cut is amazing. I’ve had people ask me if its an amethyst, a purple diamond, a champagne diamond, etc. I tell them no its a color changing sapphire. They look at me like I’m crazy juice. I always tell them I did not want a diamond so I never get that question about wanting to upgrade. I do get questions about the stone because many dont know this type of stone exists. That is why I got the stone literally for a song and a fraction of its value.
