We have two adorable cats, George and Grif. I just got off the phone with DH who is home today and he told me Grif (our dopey, fluffy, double-pawed one) has been doing the weirdest thing–he has been taking a mouthful of dry cat food from the bowl in the kitchen and walking it a feet or two over, dropping it, and eating it off the floor. He usually takes his food out of the bowl and drops it BY the bowl to eat it, but this is a new level of weirdness. Does anyone else’s do this? Any ideas WHY he does this? And now, a cute picture for your viewing pleasure.

My cat fishing one piece out at a time with his paws onto the floor, then eats it.

Yep, mine does that too! Cats are strange animals. Adorable, but strange.
Your cat is so orange and fluffy! Love it!

Such a pretty cat! I don’t have a cat, but my Aunt’s cat does that.

Mine do that occassionally. My parents’ dog will do that if people are in the living room, she will take a mouthful of kibble, drop it in the living room to eat it there just so she doesn’t miss anything!

My ex inlaws’ cats did that. It always reminded me of watching lions eat a kill – tear off a hunk of meat, then move away from the carcass and let someone else in.

@SuperKate: mine does too and theres little dried blueberries in her food and apparently she doesnt like those so she picks them out and spits them all over the floor (I’ll be buying a different brand of food next time for sure haha)

When the dry food gets low, one of my cats puts her paw in the dish, scoops out one kibble at a time and eats it on the floor.
My mom’s dog takes a mouthful of dry food, walks all the way through the kitchen, to the living room, spits it out on the floor and then eats it. It’s a good 15 steps or so.
Not sure why either of them do this, animals are weird!

Mine only does this (one piece at a time) when he’s stealing from our other cat’s dish! If it’s his own food, he stays at his dish and devours it within about two minutes.
No idea why your cat is doing it, but I just wanted to say you have a gorgeous looking kitty! He looks a lot like my family’s cat, Zeke, who is no longer with us.
