We are having a destination wedding, which is anywhere from a 2 to 6 hour drive for all of our guests, depending on where they live. Our wedding is on Saturday, and on Friday night, we are hosting the rehearsal dinner for the bridal party and a welcome cocktail party at the same location after the dinner for any guests in town that night.
My question is this: how do we let guests know that we are having this cocktail party? Do we include the info in the invitation? Or simply spread the info through word of mouth? I plan to include the info on the itinerary in the welcome bags, but I feel like that may be a little late to let people know about it because they will already have arrived.

I would include a separate enclosure. They may want to plan ahead to be able to attend.

@hardtoconcentrate: I assume you’re inviting everyone who you’re inviting to the wedding, so I would just put it in the wedding invitations. I think you will save a little money that way, and theres no chance of anything getting lost in the mail, or someone receiving one invitation and not the other.

We had a similar set up (~3 hour drive with most guests spending at least one night in the area). We had a Friday night bbq, Saturday wedding, and Sunday brunch. All guests were invited to all three events. We had the following components to the invitation:
1. Main invitation for the wedding ceremony and reception, which were on the same site.
2. “Reception card”-style insert with the bbq and brunch details. This was smaller, with a similar style/layout to the main invitation.
3. RSVP card with space to RSVP for all three events individually, plus a stamped reply envelope.
4. Information insert with directions, lodging, and area activities and restaurants.

I voted to include an enclosure in the invitation, include info in the welcome bags and word of mouth. I would appreciate a heads-up before the wedding so I could schedule it into my travel plans.

Ok, thanks, everyone! I think I’ll plan to order an extra enclosure card for the invitations (I already ordered the invitations but forgot about this when I did).
