HI, everyone!! I am super excited to share the news of the Munchkin’s arrival. She was due on March 11, but came came three weeks early on Feb 19 at 2:56AM.
She is completely healthy and never had to go to the NICU. We are thankful for a healthy and beautiful baby girl. It’s been exactlt a week and I am not sure how life was before she was born. I love her so much!!
We went to our Prepared Childbirth Class on Monday, Feb 18 (catching up from a cancelled class) and went home and got in the bed. An hour and a half after the class my water broke (about 10:45). I was just getting into the”good part” of sleeping. Is it strange that I was a little disappointed, because I wanted to finish sleeping? LOL Anyway, I felt strong contractions immediately after the water broke. I could barely call my husband (he was sleeping on the airbed on the floor) to let him know.
My contractions were bareable on the ride to the hospital. We got there and I answered questions and signed the paperwork again (I was just there the week before) At this point I had been in early labor for a week or so. The contractions started to get stronger and super close together, while waiting on them to call me back. I even got sick all over myself, the seat, table, and floor!!! YUCK!!
My labor was progressing super fast. It was my first birth, but it was coming and they didn’t seem to believe me. They’d soon find out.
When I got back to the room I was already 4 cm. …….and hour later I was already at 6! They kept losing the baby on the heart monitor, so they hooked a probe to her scalp. My contractions were so close that I wasn’t getting a break at this point! They called the Dr. to inform her that I was progressing so fast. She wasn’t my Doc , just the one on-call, so I don’t think that she was convinced that I could have the baby so soon after being admitted. They kept saying that she was on her way, but it took a while for her to get there.
She had a slight attitude at first. She tried to tell me that I could only have 2 people during delivery, but I stood firm on my three. This is what the hospital told me. My mom, MIL, and Hubby were there. I am thinking because she was annoyed that they called her to come so soon for a first time mom that just got to the hospital. Well, she was about to find out the reality of the situation!
I started feeling the urge to push and asked them to check me. They were reluctant but did and I was at 9!!!!!!!! See how quickly I was going?!! The anesthetist actually came in and did sort of a final call and asked if I wanted an epidural. She said that if I could sit very still she would do it for me, but only if I could go without moving. She says normally people can’t get it that late because they move too much. Well, I got my meds lol!! I sat so very still through those contractions that she was very impressed.
Why get an epi at 9cm? Well, I needed a break and a little rest. Since I was progressing so quickly I wasn’t getting the normal rest between contractions. I went from the beginning of active labor to transition in less than 2 hours, so they were coming fast.
The Doc came back into the room, with a better attitude, and did a test push, because she didn’t think that I would be able to push after getting the epi. Well, I proved her wrong again. I could feel the slightest bit of pressuer when contractions came, so that I knew when to push. Guess how long I pushed……….
14 MINUTES!!! can you believe that?!! So, there were like 4 hours, or so, from my water breaking to the birth of my beautiful baby girl. The first thing that my HUbby noticed was her hair. We knew that she had some, but had no idea that it would be THIS much! I am super excited. That is one of the things that I wanted for her.
I didn’t feel crowing (ring of fire) or anything. I did feel her head sliding back down into the birth canal, though. I as like “Hey, is her sliding back in?” Hubby was like “yeap”. I felt absolutely no pains associated with her coming out AT ALL!!
I tore a very little (2 stitches) and the Doc just pulled the afterbirth out. I didn’t even know that it was out until she held it up. That thing is huge! lol
My mom and I both cried as soon as Kendal was out. I mean at exactly the same time. It was such a beautiful experience. I kind of wish that I could have rememebered to use the mirror to watch. It went by so quickly, that I didn’t even think about it.
She was 5lbs 14 oz and 18.5 inches long.
Mommy and baby are doing well. She is exactly a week old today and already is showing personality. It’s crazy, because she does a lot of the same things outside that she did while I was pregnant. She still puts her hands in her face (She doesn’t like light in her eyes), she hiccups a lot, and she doesn’t like being touched a lot (except by me of course).
