@Nona99:  OMG I had the “Den of Christmas Hell” three years ago! My mom had passed away and it was on me to get Dad through the holidays, including doing all his shopping on top of my own. This made for a slim wallet, so I ended up making a lot of gifts… which made a huge perpetual mess in his family room… which became the Den of Christmas Hell.

You’ve now reminded me I need to make a Christmas Hole. Thankfully, it will most likely be the large upstairs closet that still sits empty.

Would it be wrong to just give everybody money this year? I don’t have the energy 😛

@Nona99:  I love xmas too, but I am not a very good gift giver. I admit it – I give boring, practical gifts. My nieces and nephews get saving bonds. My siblings get something they need for their houses. I should take some tips from you and actually do a good job this year :-

Hahaha! I think I will co-opt this. I already have stocking stuffers for a few people (Black Friday can take a leap, the best deals are in the summer).

I wish I would create a Christmas Hole… I am so exhausted by the time I’ve shopped for my husband’s near-Thanksgiving birthday that I barely have any gift-picking energy left for others. I do go all-out decorating though. He’s really confused about why we have a christmas tree and playmobil manger when we’re atheist but, like, it’s one of the few times of the year when, as an adult, you can cover your house in toys and still be viewed as totally sane.

@MrsPanda99:  My grandmother gave everyone gift cards one year to the local mall, but the mall has “gold” coins for gift cards… so she put them all in little velvet bags inside a frickin treasure chest and then was like the Christmas pirate throwing bags of gold coins out to people. Not bad for 94 years old.

HAHAHA I really would love to be a fly on the wall in your house. Just maybe not in the bathroom. You guys seem to have the most awesome conversations!

I myself was having a Christmas pout last night. I hand made everyone’s gifts last year. One of them being, a cover for the cargo area of everyone’s SUV’s that has straps for the backseat headrests. And I mean CUSTOM, I measured everyone’s cars behind their backs and everything. We all have large dogs. Well, after seeing my brother and his wife let their big furry dog out of the back of the car, and see that my time was completely wasted because they are not using the cover, I decided I’m going to buy them something stupid that they ask for, slap a bow on it and give it a big HARUMPH. Screw them. LOL

I love Christmas. I usually end up going overboard though when I start early. I’ll forget I got so and so a gift, so I’ll get them another one. And it’s dangerous because your wallet doesn’t feel it all at once- so you don’t’ realize how much you’re spending.

I guess I could use a list to sort that problem out…but that’s too logical. Wink

Don’t feel bad, normally i start shopping in July.  However, with this dang wedding it has eaten up my time and money so I will start late this year…October.  The bad thing is that Hanukkah starts like two days BEFORE Thanksgiving this year…that sucks.

I love the Christmas Hole!  We also love Black Friday!  It’s usually spent in Saint Augustine.  After we fill up on Turkey and lots of wine, we take naps.  Then head out to the outlets.  Then other stores as needed.  The best part is people watching with FI’s family with starbucks in hand. 🙂

(mind id f I borrow your DH’s term for where we stash our X-mas stuff?) Tee hee.
