Helloooooooooo lovely bees! I took a short hiatus from the ‘bee for the holidays and to regroup. I just re-read my last post and MAN am I a basket case!
I am a horrible procrastinator… Always have been. FI and I got engaged in October, and I told myself I’d start planning after our vaca in November…. Then I pushed it back to after Thanksgiving… After Christmas…. after the New Year…. See where I’m going with this?
Well I FINALLY got my shit together and called our #1 venue to schedule an appointment. An “inside source” of mine told me this place only had ONE date open in October and they were booked for the rest of the year. Cue epic meltdown on my part. But Fiance loves this place, so I figured we should go check it out anyway.
So Fiance and I, along with my parents (who are paying for this shindig) went on Monday night to look at the Brownstone in Paterson,NJ. Can I just say how difficult it was to get all our schedules together to do this? I work off hours, my mom works, Fiance is only off on Mondays…. It was such a headache lol. But anyway, Fiance likes this place because it’s in his hometown and he’s been to several events there and loved the food and service. I think it’d be really nice to bring his family back to the town they settled in when they came to America, as they all have moved out at this point. Also, the prices are quite reasonable for this area lol.
So we did a walk-through and they gave me a list of their menus…. And then it came down to the big discussion: When did we want this to happen. Now, I’m relatively flexible, date-wise. I was happy with anything from August-November of 2012. But I’d have to take into account that I only have certain weekends off work, that Fiance has some events to go to on certain weekends, that my brother and my father coach during the fall and have weekend games, that some of my bridesmaids are going on vacation in October. Sweet shittin balls, it was a lot to consider.
My ideal date from the very beginning was September 9th. I woke up one morning and said, “That would be the perfect day to get married.” It’s not to far into fall, not too far away from summer. It’s on my weekend off. It’s an easy date to remember (9/9/12). On a more personal (read: cheesy) note, I am an epic daddy’s girl. I’m the only daughter and the youngest child. My dad is my hero, always has been. Everything I do, I do for him. My dad is a retired police officer, his badge number was 9. So in my mind, I get to marry my best friend on that day AND sort of make it a tribute to my dad (since we’ve always considered 9 to be a lucky number). Believe me, I know how gay that sounds, but it means a lot to me.
Anyway, when we were hashing out dates, the coordinator asked if he should just start in October. I said that would be fine. With my “inside source”‘s info in the back of my mind, I figured we were pretty screwed. Turned out there were only a few Sunday day spots open in October. My Fiance asked if he could look up if anything was available in September. To our surprise, September 8th was open for a day wedding. FI said that would be fine if it was okay with me. I HAD to ask…. “Is there anything available on the 9th?”
My fingers, toes, and eyes were crossed, but I figured if they didn’t have anything on the 9th, the 8th was close enough (and 8 is my lucky number), so we’d just take that.
Wouldn’t you just know it, they had an availability for a day wedding on September 9th! I couldn’t believe it!! So we booked it! Hahaha…. My Fiance and my mom knew how badly I wanted that date, but I’d resigned myself to not getting it, since I procrastinated for practically 3 months, ya know? And I know places around here book up so fast…. But anyway. When the coordinator asked why I wanted that date and told him, my dad got the cutest smile on his face. He didn’t know I’d wanted this date, so it was a nice surprise for him.
But can you believe our luck?! Being able to book our favorite venue AND get the date we wanted?!?! I’m ecstatic! And also nervous because now I have less than 8 months to plan the wedding haha. It’ll be fine, though. I’m keeping everything simple, I don’t want too many headaches.
I’ll probably start dress shopping the week after next, and we should finish our guest list this weekend. We’ll look into invitations too. I have two photographers in mind and I’m still up in the air about an engagement shoot. I would LOVE more pics of me and Fiance, but since it’s cold as hell, I don’t know WHERE we could do the shoot.
Anyway…. so there’s my update haha. I’ve FINALLY started doing things, and that feels good… and stressful! I’m just happy to have something definitive, you know?
Happy planning, Bees!
