Sorry to hear about your loss – I too know how bittersweet the feeling is knowing that they are no longer suffering and with their loved ones but still wanting them here. That’s how I felt when my grandmother passed away nearly 6 years ago now.
Congrats on your engagement! I just want to add that my Fiance and I also got engaged on a hike on Diamond Head so we have that in common 🙂 Looks like it was amazing! Best of luck to you in your planning!

creativeplannertobee: Thank you! I couldn’t agree more!
peaceoutshannon: Thanks! People gave me crazy looks then but I didn’t care and I’m so glad I did it. The old man would never tell me he was proud of me to my face (he did it behind my back lol) but I know he was!

MissGatitas: It’s just weird to me because I remember how crazy I was with my parents death. But I was young (11, almost 12, and then 16) and my parents were young (43 and 49) so it wasn’t as expected as pawpaw who was older and sick. Thank you for the congrats! The whole engagement still hasn’t sunk in to me yet with all the crazy emotions of losing pawpaw and starting back to school. I can’t wait to get my engagment ring that we spent months designing so that it will finally (hopefully) feel real haha That’s so awesome we got engaged at diamond head!! My parents have so many pics of it from their honeymoon and I’m sure they never thought 24 years later their daughter would get engaged there. He said he was saving it for diamond head and was getting worried cause I kept pushing it back later in the week haha

ksn1219: I can definitely see how an unexpected loss would be much different than someone you had seen suffer, I’m sure the are both difficult in different ways.
And honestly, it’s too funny you mention that you kept pushing the diamond head hike back because that is EXACTLY what happened with us too! We were supposed to do it Friday morning but I overslept (sunrise hike) then we planned to do it again on Sunday but we drank too much Saturday and I was hungover so said no. Finally on the last day there we went – he had been planning it for that hike the whole time and was expecting to get it done early in the trip – so he was definitely stressed for a lot longer!

So sorry for your loss. That’s just devastating! I think your engagement story is beautiful and so sweet! I know it’s hard to focus on the happiness when you are also grieving. I think your grandad would want you to be happy and to have the wedding you deserve. I believe he and your parents will be with you all along the way in spirit! Congrats on your engagement! You seem to have an awesome fella that really loves you and supports you! Your grandad I bet was very proud!
