Funny story for you bees….
During my lunch break, I ran a quick errand to the store. As I was waiting in the checkout line, the woman behind me asks, “boy or girl?” I didn’t understand, so she motions to my stomach and asks again, “boy or girl?”…. Well, I’m not pregnant. Nor do I think I look pregnant (though I’m never wearing this particular dress again….). I figured it would be better to just play along rather than embarassing the woman, so I just mumbled, “oh…um….we don’t know” thinking that would be the end of it. It wasn’t. She asked if we were doing a big reveal (“no, it’ll be a big surprise”). She asked if people were upset we hadn’t told them (“nope…no one has said a word”)
I started to check out, but she persisted with questions. As I swiped my card, she asked “so when are you due?” I was ready to get away, so without thinking, I replied “March 21” (Since it’s my birthday and was the first date that popped into my head). Just before I made it out of earshot, I heard her go, “wait…but that’s more than nine months away!” I’m literally still laughing about the whole thing….and considering doing a few extra sets of crunches at the gym this evening. 🙂

I laughed out loud at work! Great job with the responses!

OH MY GOD. I’m so sorry this happened because no woman wants to be mistaken as pregnant when she’s not but….. I am laughing SO HARD right now at your responses. Especially the due date! That’s totally something I would’ve done because I hate uncomfortable situations and would’ve rather just went with it.
At least now she must realize you aren’t actually pregnant and hopefully she feels bad.

I LOVE that you went along with it! I’ve had that happen to me at work and I told them no, I’m not pregnant. Super awkward! Next time I’ll go along with it, that’s hilarious! Thank you for making my day!

I was at a party drinking a beer and someon asked me when the baby was due. I pointed out that I was drinking a beer… So 1, I looked pregnant, 2, apprently I seem like the kind of person who would drink alot of beers while pregnant. Next time I will take a page out of your book and say that I am!

amanda.417: see I never think it’s ok to comment on the appearance (pregnant or not) of a stranger as you just never know why someone looks the way they do. So I’m a jerk and I would have responded with “omg I was about to ask you the same thing!” and seen what she said. Hopefully her response would have been something like “oh I’m not pregnant…..” and then I could say “yikes! how awkward right? I’m not either so I guess that’s a lesson now isn’t it? don’t assume such things about complete strangers”

That happened at my first wedding dress appointment. I just said “oh, not pregnant. Thank you”. Some people..

People just don’t think before speaking…lol. I went to pick my son up from school yesterday and the secretary asked for my id then said “So are you Mom, Grandma…?” I froze. True enough, he is my “later in life” baby and I AM old enough to have grandchildren but if I did, they would be around 3 or 4 NOT NO GROWN ASS MIDDLE SCHOOLERS. I was M O R T I F I E D. I proceeded directly home and touched up my roots.

Thats too funny. I love your answers! My sister was a life guard in high school and pregnant women are not allowed in the jacuzzi. She had told a woman one time that pregnant women are not allowed in the jacuzzi and the woman went off. She felt sooo bad…thats why I never ask unless I’m told!!
Yea i think i would be more offended that they thought you were a beer guzzling prego than that they thought you were pregnant LOL

you are brilliant! Well done on the responses! I had it happen to me once when someone offered me a seat – like pps – goodbye to that dress!

I have had this happen several times in my life. I can’t believe how rude people can be. Once I played along but if it happens again I will not. People need to realize that all shapes and sizes are beautiful and not to think if a woman has a belly it means she is pregnant! Please don’t do crunches just because this women or people have no couth. If you want to do it for yourself, go right ahead. If more of us stood up and said, Nope not pregnant, just have a beautiful body! i think people would realize how out of place they are saying these things!!! I refuse to not wear certain clothes that are comfortable or cute to me because of what someone else might think or say.

The part about the due date being more than 9 months away is too funny! I think you handled yourself pretty well instead of getting offended and giving her an attitude. Thanks for sharing 🙂
