When Fiance was looking at rings (and I didn’t know), a thing popped up on his facebook “Mr.Cake likes So-and-so jewelers!” and I saw it and pointed it out to him.

He was like sweating bullets and I didn’t notice because I (helpfully) suggested that his account had been hacked. He went on immediately to “change his password” and I didn’t think a think of it until I got a ring hahaha!

But sorry to say, any affiliates already have your address and will send you more stuff eventually.

So have you been to/ been in any weddings recently? Because you can blame that “Oh, so-and-so had us buy our dresses here, I guess they are sending all of us “you’re next” marketing! Ugh!”

You can also blame targeted marketing… some companies guess your life status by your age (i.e. I get a lot of baby stuff despite not signing up for/ buying/ etc baby things, because I am “that age”)
Here, for backup proof: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/02/19/magazine/shopping-habits.html?pagewanted=all&_r=0

But maybe you should take this as a sign from the universe to get the conversation going! Some guys are surprisingly interested in wedding mails and information, even befor ethey’re engaged.

Not ring related but baby related. The internet is getting wind of my (secret) baby fever. So much that Pandora is playing mom/baby related commercials. So embarassing! Especially when his parents were around. “Honestly honey, I have no idea why that Amazon Mom commercial keeps playing!”

I promised myself I would NOT get on this site at home. My laptop is broken so I’d have to use my SO’s…nope not doing it. So I sit here distracted at work reading all the new posts and whatnot when I should be working…oopsie! lol

once the proposal officially happens it’s game on but until then, I’m a closet bee haha

I had an embarassing moment as well… I wanted to look something up on my computer for my BF and when I opened another tab he was talking to me so I turned to face him.  I see him starting at my screen and the new tab on macs has your favorite websites/frequently visited websites.  So of course one of the boxes on there shows MoissaniteCo and pictures of engagement rings… D’oh!  He didn’t say anything and I tried to play it off like I didn’t notice either.  He has told me though that I’ll be helping him shop because he doesn’t want to screw up the ring… if it’s on his mind it’s allowed to be on mine, too! (and my computer… lol)

@Sassyfras27:  I think if one more thing comes in that he sees before you’re able to snag it, I would come clean about it…I just know, in my case, it would be much worse for my poor SO if I didn’t say anything at all. And I wouldn’t want to lie, because I’m sure he’d be thinking “I can’t possibly see how this is a giant coincidence RIGHT before I’m planning on proposing”

I don’t know what the knot is, but is it anything like this website? You could just explain that you signed up on a website where women can go and support each other wit their relationships, engagements and weddings..and you guess this is how the pressure couples to get married, but bombarding them with flyers! You could try and make it a funny thing?

I just think it would be so much worse if he keeps putting all this wedding stuff in “your pile of mail” and neither of you discuss it! Talk about a giant elephant in the room! Lol

@Sassyfras27:  Are you a Bridesmaid or Best Man in any weddings? Say you signed up for an account because they have all those “what BM’s should do” articles, and, true story, you can’t read them without an account.

@Sassyfras27:  Yep. When I registered an account on The Knot I recieved post cards in the mail everyday for about 2 months and my Spam box is completely full of their crap. They totally sell your info or give it away. Ugh. So frustrating and stupid.

Well my SO knows I am wedding obsessed and pretty much have everything planned and we aren’t even engaged yet. But I did go a little overboard and started planning what our future baby’s nursery will look like… and I got a telemarketer call about baby supplies because “they heard I was expecting”. And SO answered the phone! Ooops

@Sassyfras27:  LOL- I don’t know if deleting your account is going to stop the mail….if someone has your address already, it means others do, too.

Question- do you really think your SO is going to freak out if he finds out you’re looking at wedding stuff?  It seems like maybe you guys have talked about marriage?  But just haven’t gotten engaged yet?  I think it’s pretty normal for you to be looking at wedding stuff, unless he has expressed NO interest in marriage- then it might freak him out.

If I had that happen before we were engaged, I would have just told my SO “so…..be prepared for random weddign related mail to pop up in our mailbox.  I signed up for something because I was interested in (a hair piece/cute dress/insert creative item here)- and it turns out it’s from a wedding website.” Or something like that.  If the guy wants to marry you eventually, he shouldn’t freak 🙂

You all are talking about the NEW Era of “Target Marketing”

It has really ramped up in 2013…

Seems to be now whenever one uses technology one is now being tracked…

Be it here on WBee (check the Ads… they will reflect your Browsing History)

Or over on sites like Pinterest where they are now doing “Pins suggested JUST FOR YOU”

Sometimes such things are nice… when you actually want to be targeted

Like the NEWLY launched Loblaws Grocery Store “PC Plus” Loyalty Program… that coordinates your shopping habits with your on-line account and Apple Device App.  It is awesome to shop for Groceries and get offered Discounts and Coupons (and on-line Recipes) that reflect who I am and what I buy.

Makes Grocery a whole lot easier… and with their Points Progam and I earning back BIG BUCKS for shopping I would have done any ways

Totally cool

BUT ya when I don’t want to be targeted… it creeps me out a bit to see how my Browsing History shows up elsewhere on the Internet (Ads etc)… in my Email Box or worse yet my home mailbox

I am truly not 100% onboard yet with this concept… as an Oldtimer it just “smells a bit” of the Orwellian Big Brother concept.
