Probably BS.  You can’t claim the ring was stolen on an insurance claim without a police report. Filing a false report is an arrestable crime. You’d have to be really REALLY stupid to risk a police record and a huge fine to get a new engagement ring. But I guess, people have done stupider things…

With my insurance, all I have to do is say I lost it, and they’ll give us the money – no questions asked! So maybe she has an equally strange policy.

Either way, it’s a hilarious “secret”, although I always wonder how many of them are legit!

That’s just wrong… Not to mention illegal.  I’d be afraid of getting caught for insurance fraud.
