@dawn89:  did you use a secondary jeweler for the appraisal?

The appraisal for me was higher than what we paid.

@subtlebee:  Does using a secondary appraiser make the amount higher or lower?

@heathuhhhhwebbbb:  it makes it more legitimate. Our insurers only take appraisals from reputable jewelers who we didn’t buy the item from.

If it’s an replacement value appraisal for insurance, it’s usually much higher than what you paid.

If it’s a fair market value appraisal, it’s usually lower than what you paid.

if your setting and diamond were purchased by the jeweler at a cheaper gold and diamond price than the rates now, then yes it makes sense it appraises for more.  You got a great deal! My setting was 1800 without the diamond when we bought it. Not much later it was up to 2200 because since gold prices went up they had to pay more to buy the settings. Same with my diamond, we got a great deal because at the time that the jeweler bought that particular diamond, the market price of diamonds was cheaper.

Also beautiful ring! Hope he proposes soon!
