- Wedding: April 2014
I went to try on dresses for the first time today. As some of you may know, I was dead set on getting a colored dress, but I figured I’d try on wedding dresses first, just in case. First we went to DB, which despite the negative reviews about it, I loved. My assistant was extremely helpful and they had all but one of the dresses that I wanted to try on. Plus she made some of her own picks as well.
We started with this, which was on my list. My friend that went with me was in love. It was her favorite until the end. It was SUPER sparkly in person.
Next up with this one. Which was my favorite on my list. Its so flattering on everyone I’ve seen it on. Unfortunately I didnt like it near as much on myself.
Then there was a blue prom dress, but I’m in love with it. I think the shape of it was the most flattering out of all the dresses I tried on, but as my friend kept saying “its just VERY blue.” If they had had a wedding dress in this shape I might have gotten it.
Next was this one. Which has been extremely flatting on everyone I’ve seen it on. But it looked awful on me. I think it was my boobs (I had to go up a size just to get them in in all my dresses.)
Next was this, which was another favorite of my friend. I just wasnt liking the halter on it. If it had been a sweetheart neckline I would have loved it.
Next was THE ONE. I gasped as soon as I saw it. Which is crazy because it is so not me, at all. Its so simple and not an ounce of color on it. But I loved it.
Then she managed to find a belt IN MY EXACT PURPLE COLOR. It was even the same color as my nail polish.
And then she convinced me to try on a veil (which I also wasnt wanting) and it was just perfect. I almost cried. I seriously walked around in this dress for 30 minutes. I didnt want to take it off.
But we had another appointment at a different place. So my friend convinced me to put it on hold so we could go to this other appt. My mom wasnt with us at DB, and she would be at the second appt, so I really wanted to go to it.
And I ended up picking…………….
Its the store own brand, so theres no stock photo of it. They stopped making it, and I got one of the ones left on the floor, so I got it on sale. It was still above my $500 limit, but I dont even care. And its not even the most flattering on me, but I dont care about that either. I felt SO pretty in it, I couldnt stop twirling around. My mom, who is generally “blah” about wedding stuff was even emotional about it, and told me that if I picked it, she would pay the rest of the bill for me. The assistant originally had me in a 20, but it was too big, so she got me in the 18 instead and it was PERFECT. The only alterations I need is to have cups sewn in.
It is so opposite of what I wanted. I never saw myself in a blinged out dress. I never saw myself in a drop waist gown. I never saw myself in this at all. The assistant picked it out and showed it to me and I just kind of shrugged and said sure.
