I agree, DB is awful.  I could see how they could bring out that anger!  I tried on dresses there and that was enough for me, I left halfway through the appointment.

While I don’t agree that you were getting so many mixed messages when trying to find the dress and when you originally settled on a dress, the saleswoman was right about ordering them all at the same time.  That way, they’ll all come from the same dye lot and you know they’re all spoken for.  I doubt they have a flag in their system at a local store to say contact the bride about her BMs who didn’t order their dresses yet.  The decision was probably all the way up at corporate or even the manufacturer itself.  Definitely not cool either way though.

While it sucks that this happened, I feel a little bad for that manager. It wasn’t her decision to discontinue the dress in that color – maybe it was popular at that location but not nationwide, so the company made the decision to discontinue it. And like Jamiezilla said, I doubt there’s a flag in their system to contact all brides that have those dresses listed. I’m sorry you had a negative experience, but look at the bright side – your girls will all have their dresses and I’m sure they’ll look great!

What dress was this, might I ask? Was it a chiffon dress in Latte?

i had a horrible experience with them too. i was super nice and polite and still the sales associate refused to pull other sizes/styles for my bridesmaids and dresses for me. she just didn’t care, i had to pull everything myself and that took up a lot of time since i had never been there before and didn’t know where anything was. And before someone says she probably had other brides she didn’t, she was playing around on the computer right in front of us the whole time she simply would not get us dresses. She could hear me saying we needed another size and just did not offer to get us anything. She brought me one dress and then said they had nothing else in the style i wanted, i checked the racks after she said my time was up and there was so much more i would have loved to try on. i ended getting so angry bought nothing. i regret not telling a manager how horrible my experience was, good for you for telling them how mad you were.

DB is awful but just like you, I went there for my bridesmaids dresses because they were the most affordable.  We chose a cute black and white printed pattern for my sister and Maid/Matron of Honor and we went to order it a couple weeks later and they had discontinued it.  They knew I was coming back to pay for it a week later but yet they couldn’t tell me that I should maybe order it now in case it discontinued.  They said that they never know when things will discontinue.  I find that hard to believe.  Luckily, they found one in Washington DC in my sisters size so we got lucky.  I have a wonderful consultant I’ve been working with though.  She is very helpful.  Overall, DB sucks so flippin bad!

@misspeanut:  I agree that it sucks for the manager (unless the mgr was being a “b”) it is also unfortunate that paying customers have to go ape sh*t on people to actually get something done. I’m sure if the OP was passive they probably wouldn’t have wanted to look any further to find the dress.

I’m glad you found it, OP. It sucks that they told you it was popular and would be available and then wasn’t. Esp. with a place like DB you would think most styles stick around for a while. I’m just glad you got it figured out; what unwanted stress.

yeah the first time i went there for my wedding dress (three years ago) the consultant that was taking care of me selected four dresses in my size and insisted i pick from them. I didnt really like any of them, but she absolutely would not search for other dresses. she insisted i pick from the four she had pulled out. not to mention, i told her i wanted one off of the $99 sale rack, and the ones she had picked out were all between 300 – 500 dollars. i wont return there this time around.

Why are these stores still in business? I think they are even more hated than Comcast.  We need to just rise up as women and STOP buying from DB! Sure, it is cheaper, but it is NOT worth it!

While I disagree with getting mad at that manager, I think it is odd that it took you to raise a fuss before they found a dress for you. It depends on which ones are willing to work harder for you.

DB is really hit or miss it seems. My family and I had nothing but a wonderful experience with them, but I’ve had friends who have tried to get dresses fitted and it has been a nightmare.

@megz06:  Agreed — we had absolutely no trouble with DB both for my dress, bridesmaid dresses, AND Mother of the Bride dress!  It’s weird that some locations are so bad. I went there about a million times, getting shoes, bustier, jewelry, alterations, etc. and found them to be fantastic every time. But I hear so many horror stories!

Guess it is just luck of the draw on how the location near you works!

I probably would have gone off a little sooner if that had happened to me. I’ll generally be polite and give people the benefit of the doubt the first two times they screw up, then the third time, I get rude. Glad it all worked out in the end!

I actually had a good experience with David’s Bridal, but I think it had a lot to do with the fact that my girls wanted to shop around themselves to find their styles, so we weren’t reliant on the saleswoman to pull a lot of dresses for us. That being said, she was very nice, helped us find some sizes, made some good suggestions, and explained how all of the color pathways worked, despite us being there on a busy Saturday afternoon with no appointment. The dresses all came in within a couple weeks with no problems, and we didn’t order all at once. I guess it really comes down to your shopping style and whether you get one of the “good” sales associates, which seems to be the case with most “big box” stores, regardless of what they sell.

That being said, I wouldn’t have bought my wedding dress there. I wanted the full experience of a sales associate who would be assigned to only me and who would give me very personal customer service. My mom kept suggesting I go to DB during their big sale, but I made an appointment at a boutique shop instead, and I couldn’t feel better with that decision. The place where I bought my dress was absolutely wonderful for their customer service and obviously had a lot of skill and experience. I also think the quality of the dress is much, much higher than what I saw at DB.
