Okay this is funny to me, because I’ve come full circle. In the beginning of my dress hunt I fell in love with this dress, Jacquelin Exclusives 9802 Love the lace, the vintage feel, the buttons up the back, all of it. BUT, I worried that it would not make me feel “like a bride” because it is not poufy. I had always envisioned myself in a ballgown. I also worried a LOT that it would not flatter my figure as I’m borderline plus-sized.
Okay, so I started focusing on ballgowns. I went through a few different ones, everything from $450 to $850 and recently got all excited about a very 50’s-esque ballgown that I found for $350! But, I couldn’t find it around here to try on. So when I went out today to David’s Bridal it was with the intention of trying on dresses like THAT one to see what they would look like on me. I tried on several, most all strapless (because the dress I was going for looks strapless but has an illusion neckline and sheer upper back)… and for a while I was all confused, not knowing what I wanted at all! I did NOT like the strapless on me for the most part because they all gave me a pudge “overhang” on the top of the bodice around the armpits.
Then I found an all-lace dress there and tried it on. It made my Fiance cry. It was one size too big but we pulled it together in back and OMG, wow, gorgeous.
The funny thing is, it’s the exact same silhouette as the dress above that I was worried wouldn’t flatter me and it looked AMAZING on my body! And I loved it in champagne (under layer) with the ivory lace on top. VERY vintage!
Here’s the dress from DB that I tried on but this pic doesn’t show the shade well:
Ugh! I can’t find good pics of this dress anywhere though I know it’s popular!! It’s the DB t9612 or in plus size 9T9612, same diff. Here’s a link:
But at any rate, it looked fabulous and despite all my going on about needing a ball gown to feel bridal this one was WOW and felt perfectly bridal… but reminded me so much of the first dress in the cut and lace…
Oh and I tried on another there at DB with the same kind of button up lace back!! And I loved that but hated the skirt of the dress.
So, I think the Jacquelin Exclusives one above will work out perfectly. I know from the DB dress that the cut will work awesomely and the Jacquelin dress has everything the DB dress has and MORE that I like, the brooch and ribbon under the bust, the lace and buttons in the back, and depending on what kind of deal I can get online they are about the same price. Actually the Jacquelin comes out a bit cheaper. Oh and I found someone’s wedding blog with pics of another person in the Jacquelin dress which REALLY cemented my decision because her coloring is similar to mine and she’s built a lot like me:
I was surprised by what I chose but I really felt sophisticated and womanly in the semi-trumpet allover lace number, whereas the ballgowns looked nice but I felt odd, like I was 7 and playing dressup. Does that make sense? I guess I’m not too surprised since it’s what I leaned toward in the first place. Fiance was all ready to get the DB lace one TODAY but I chilled her out because I wanted to show her the Jacquelin one when we got home and once I did she agreed that the Jacquelin wins hands down.
Sooo, all I have to do now is find the best price on the Jacquelin. I already emailed NetBride (whose quotes have beat all others so far hands down) and they don’t carry that line. I’m okay with it though, I know I can get it for a price I’m comfy with, even if it’s not a “steal”, and I am confident it’s the dress for me!
I know I’ve been putting off the official dress “try on” thing for a long time now and wanted to share since I actually did it. It wasn’t as awful as I’d expected. I wouldn’t call it “fun” but my Fiance really enjoyed it. I thought it was rather sweaty and frustrating and my consultant was a bit apathetic but hey, it could’ve been worse and it helped me make a decision! Oh and I found out I can wear a 14 in some DB dresses, whereas I’d expected to be an 18 so that was nice. Fiance is happy because now we can focus on her attire! Everyone’s been waiting on me and my dress to be what sets the tone for everything else and now we are settled!
Can y’all see the similarities in the cut?
