Went to the town hall this morning to give our notice of marriage!
Giving your notice is what you do in the UK instead of getting a marriage licence. After meeting with the registrar a notice is put up in the town hall annoucning that ‘ABC is intending to marry DEF’ and that if anyone knows of any reason why such a marriage should not take place they should contact the registrar.
The notice stays up for 16 days and provided no one objects in the next couple of weeks you get your licence to marry.
It seems like such an old fashioned and quaint system of verifying that you are eligible to marry eachother. I have to say I was expecting the paperwork to be much more complicated after some of the horror stories I have heard on these boards.
Have you gone through a similar process or found the paperwork to be easier than expected?
