I don’t think a cat is going to come when called so it doesn’t matter what you are saying ๐Ÿ˜‰ But seriously, I think the cat will be fine if you change the name, even if it takes a while to get used to it, most of its life the new name will be its real name.

I adopted my cat when she was three years.  At the shelter, her name was “Smokey,” but she was black– not the color of smoke!  I renamed her Phoebe.  It took her about a week and a half to realize she was Phoebe.

If you don’t like the name, you can change it.  She’ll figure it out shortly.

I had gotten a kitty one time who was a rescue kitty to he was about 6 years old, yeah his name got changed. I don’t see why you can’t rename the cat.

My cat comes when called.

But he was originally a stray (with previous owners), so I gave him a new name. I think you’ll be fine renaming your new cat!

I dont think it’s wrong to change her name! We fostered kittens once, and we didn’t want to give them a name that the future owner would want to change, but at the same time, we needed a way to reference them and tell them apart! Change away!

@chasesgirl:  I’ve had eight cats in my lifetime (we were usually a multi-cat home).  Two of my cats have come when they are called.

My kitty was a stray baby! He is probably about 1 1/2 years now and we named him Taz and he definately knows his name but I’m sure if we changed it he would get used to that too. Cats are silly like that ๐Ÿ™‚

I DO think fury is a sweet name, but maybe that’s the nerd coming out in me.

@Neetch: I just called my cat (she was in another room) to test this and she totally came! I heard a meow and in she ran! I don’t think she would come if Darling Husband called though so I think it’s my voice.

I would change it, she’ll get used it. Unless you get your cat from the womb it will always have a previous name. My cat growing up gave birth to a few litters and I would always name the kittens before we found them homes.

PICTURES when you get her ๐Ÿ™‚

We adopted a one year old cat from a shelter. She was called Chloe but my parents have a cat with that name, so we renamed her. She’s now Princess Peach, but we always call her Peachy. She responds to her new name. I think the name itself is less important than the tone of voice you use. Most cats don’t really come when called anyway. ๐Ÿ™‚

@HappilyEverAfter54:  I had a black cat that I adopted who came to me with the name “Paulene.” There was no way I was keeping that name.

This is Hippie. She was one of the sweetest, most docile cats in the universe. Sadly I lost her a few months ago, but the point to my story is she understood her name change, and always came when called.
