- Wedding: June 2010
I’ve been on the boards for a while and been engaged since May, but I figure its better late then never right?!
My fiance and I have been together for 4 years, so naturally we had discussed plans to get married eventually. We are young, so I honestly was not expecting it this early. I am going to be a dentist, so I had casually mentioned one time that I didn’t want a large solitaire diamond that would catch on gloves and things daily. That and I don’t like yellow gold. This is ALL I had ever said. We never went ring shopping. We never seriously talked about the “perfect” timeline…just that we knew we belonged together and someday, whenever it seems right we would get married.
One night we were watching TV and my dad called. He said he had received a missed call from Mr H and was wondering if he was with me. Thinking nothing of it I said sure hes right here and luckily I chose to run to the bathroom then kitchen for some snacks. By the time I got back, he was off the phone. He was just smiling on the couch when I returned. Again, I didn’t think much of it since we hadn’t talked about engagement recently. He’s usually smiling anyway.
The next day he suggested we go dancing with some friends. He told me to get dressed up in my favorite dress and to call him when I was ready. When I called he told me he wanted to go for a walk (something we often do during dates) around campus. There is a place on campus that we always end up at to take pictures during dates. It is beautiful with statues and flowers and trees everywhere. On the walk he kept talking about great memories and how much I meant to him. As we got to “our spot”, he told me to set up my camera (we set it on a statue and set the timer). I got everything ready, set the timer and pressed the button, and when I turned around, I had to look down because he was on one knee with the most perfect, beautiful ring I could have ever imagined! All I remember from there is a lot of crying and smiling. I know I said “Are you kidding me?” a couple times, which made him nervous. But of course I said YES! To make it better, we have a picture of the moment. He definitely had this planned.
We finished the evening off with a night of dancing…great fun! Plus it was a blast to show of the ring and spend the night with some of our closest friends.
