- Wedding: September 2017
I told myself I wouldn’t get all sappy, but I can’t help it. I’m on cloud 9! On the 14th of September, my best friend asked me to be his wife, and I said, “Are you serious?! YES!!!” I’m thrilled to say I’ve got the proposal, the ring and the man of my dreams.
Ok so every year, fi and a couple of his friends head up into the rainy forests of Western Washington to this incredible little cabin just off the Pacific Crest Trail to provide care, hot meals and alcohol to folks who’ve hiked north from Mexico. This year, he invited me to join him, and we were both really anticipating this trip.
So on the 13th, we packed up a week’s worth of gear, groceries and clothes and made the 4 hour drive over the mountains and into the woods. On the drive over, we discussed our expected engagement a little bit, and he made it a point to tell me my ering was still with our jeweler, and that he planned to propose when we got home. I believed him, and was excited to just enjoy this experience with him. I didn’t expect him to propose.
On the 14th, around mid afternoon, he and I had planned to bring in most of our gear, and were getting ready to make the half mile hike to our car, when he said he had forgotten something. He ran back to the cabin, and called me back with him. When I got there, he and his friends said they wanted to take a group photo out in the meadow in front of the cabin with all the hikers (turns out one of them was a professional photographer). So while we all gather, fi’s friend pours everyone shots and says he’d like to make a toast, “toooo… Princess and Sticky!” (Our trail names.) Thought it was a bit weird, but I took my shot, turned to smile at him, and saw him on his knee with a Qalo ring tucked into my ering box. He gave a short and very sweet speech about how perfect we are together and how much I mean to him, and then asked me, “Will you marry the shit out of me?” Of course I said yes, and the group produced firecrackers that popped confetti everywhere. We cleaned up, and then spent the rest of this perfect week celebrating our engagement with new and old friends.
