My now-fiancé proposed yesterday in front of the fountain at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island! I was completely surprised. He had been very affectionate the whole day, but that’s to be expected when vacationing on a romantic island.
We took a horse-drawn carriage ride and one of the stops was at the famous Grand Hotel. We walked around the garden area in front of the hotel and then sat on a bench and looked at the fountain they have.
There were a bunch of people by us when we sat down. After a few minutes I was ready to walk on, but he said he wanted to sit there for a bit longer. It was a nice spot to sit, and we had a really pretty view, but I was ready to get on with all of the other things we had planned for the day.
He waited until everyone walked away and then said “We’ve been together for a year and a half” and I nodded and smiled and then he GOT DOWN ON ONE KNEE (at which point I started shaking and crying) and said “And I want to spend the rest of my life with you. So will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me?” (He had his speech memorized, so later I made him write it all down for me so I’ll never forget his exact words).
Then he took the ring out of a little draw string pouch he was holding and put it on my finger. I jumped off the bench I was sitting on so fast I almost knocked it over. I said “Yes!” And we hugged and kissed.
I’m so excited!
