- Wedding: December 2017
So after almost 6 years, a house and a dog together my SO and I are finally engaged and I could not be more over the moon or excited.
He proposed just over 2 weeks ago at the end of January while we were on the most wonderful to South Africa which is where we originally met and fell in love for the first time.
This was our 5th visit to SA so it is a place really special to our relationship. I had a suspicion my SO was going to propose on this holiday and I kept picking up hints, he acted super shifty going through security and was suddenly like ‘oh i feel really weird i think i’m dehydrated! If i get stopped at security can you just go through and get me a bottle of water!” Only as soon as he wasnt searched the need for water was totally forgotten! Hahaha. Anyway, then he was being really protective of the hotel room safe – everytime I went to get something out of it he would dart over and be like I’ll get it! So all of this started to make me think he was hiding a ring…which obviously he was.
Anyway, then a week into the holiday I started thinking oh perhaps I’m just imagining it! But then we went out on a four night liveaboard diving trip – we met diving so this is really a passion we share and both love. On the final night on the boat we’d been diving all day and it was the most beauitful evening. My SO said shall we go and watch the sunset. So off we went to sit on the front of the boat and watch honestly the most beautiful sunset I’ve ever seen. My SO was acting really on edge, never taking his hand out of his pocket! and he kept asking me questions like ‘do you love me? Do you think we’re going to be together for the rest of our lives”. Then he was like wow look at the colour of the sky over there, basically in the opposite direction to where he was standing. So I turned round to look, and it was a beautiful sky, the whole thing light up bright red.
Then as I turned back round towards him he was down on one knee with the ring in his had asking me to marry him. I immediately burst into tears (as did he) and started saying are you joking, are you sure, yes yes YES!
He then gave me THE MOST BEAUTIFUL ring I have ever seen, I had always wanted and antique aquamarine ring (as this is my birthstone and my mum had an aquamarine from my dad 35 years ago when they got engaged). And SO did absolutely incredible – he got me the most gorgeous original 1920s platinum, 2ct diamond and 4ct aquamarine ring I have ever seen. We had looked a little at rings together and he said he had originally gone to get me the one I’d pointed out as loving but when he saw it and held it he decided it wasnt perfect and actually wasnt me – an BOY was he right, the ring he picked is far far more perfect than the one I had pointed out and it was my exact size from when he perfect.
We then went on to have the most beautiful rest of the holiday and we both so happy and on air the whole time. Now we are home and I can share the story with you all and we can get our wedding planning underway, I am so so excited and happy. 😀
