I hate surprises even if they are pleasant. I would not want to make a life changing decision in a matter of seconds. I appreciated that we talked about it and had the same idea of what is life and marriage would entail for us well beforehand.

I wasn’t too surprised – I didn’t know when he was going to propose, but I had picked out the ring beforehand. I had actually voiced concern about when he was going to propose because of stuff going on at work lol

Yes and no. I had no idea he’d even bought the ring until I found the slip for it on accident. He’d purchased it back in January and was waiting for it to come in, and I opened the center console in his car and accidentally saw it. It actually came in that day and he went to pick it up (unbeknownst to me) and then proposed a couple of hours later. Apparently he’d had a different proposal plan, but he ended up doing it spur of the moment instead.

Nope, and thank goodness!  We designed the ring together and had it made.  We picked it up together and he proposed that evening!

I knew it was coming but I thought it wouldn’t be for a while longer.  I was so sick on the couch so it totally caught me off guard, it was a nice surprise.

He had a plan the next day to put it on the Christmas tree on a new ornament he got for me but he couldn’t wait.  He proposed less than 2 hours after he picked up the ring, it was a day before the one year anniversary of when we bought our house 🙂

not at all. I like to joke that Fiance has been romantic exactly one time in our almost five year relationship, and that was the night he proposed. Even though no one KNEW it was coming, when I told people (my mom, coworkers, girlfriends) about his date plan, they even thought he was going to propose. As a matter of fact, when I called my BFF after it happened, she answered the phone “So he proposed, right?”. Ha! Oh well…I knew to have waterproof mascara on, my nails done, and my camera charged. And it didn’t make it any less special.

Fiance is the world’s worst liar, add worst secret keeper to that when you get a little booze in him. on his 30th birthday, he more or less told me he would be proposing to me on my birthday 2 months later. i didn’t know how it would go down until that morning though…

I knew it was coming for MONTHS, but I was still completely surprised.

My Fiance is also not good at keeping secrets. I strongly suspected he had the ring.  I was completely surprised though, since I was expecting him to wait much longer. I was thinking maybe next fall.  Worked out well though, since our venue fills up 15 months in advance!!

@inky_1:  I knew he had it (we bought it together) and I knew the week he was most likely going to propose (had it narrowed down to one of two days) but it was still amazingly special. I have memories we made together, both ring shopping and getting my parents blessing, that I wouldn’t have had if it were a complete and utter surprise.

    Nope! Wouldn’t change a thing 🙂
