This is not your mother’s ring!!! You have to wear it, not her!

I am the same way – type A, very picky…. but when I saw the ring my fiancé picked out, I cried. I loved it instantly and it has only gotten stronger from there. It’s modest but perfect and it is a symbol of the love my fiancé has for me. It’s not a fashion accessory. It’s a symbol of love.

gardnerg :  It’s your ring, not your mother’s. I mean this kindly when I say if you cannot stand up for what you want in a ring that’s between you and your future spouse, then you and your husband are in for a long marriage of meddling and arguing.

Why on earth would it matter what your mother thinks? It’s not her ring!

I have a sapphire engagement ring and almost 2 years later I still catch myself staring at it all the time. I absolutly adore it and can’t imagine loving any other piece of jewlery more. It absolutly wow’d me – my husband did an amazing job choosing a stone with the perfect shade of blue.

Find a ring in a style you like and have it custom made in the colors you prefer. 🙂

I know people say it’s a symbol, not an accessory…but I think it is an accessory in addition to being a symbol. You wear it. You see it. Ideally you should like what it looks like, not just what it means.

Heres mine. It exceeded anything I ever considered.

gardnerg :  Re your moms concerns about clashing. Most people consider their engagement ring to be a “neutral” regardless of the colour and something that goes with everything else. Personally I would stay away from yellow or orange to help with not clashing, but you can’t really God wrong. White stones aren’t definitely beautiful but you seem to have eclectic and colourful tastes so I think you should embrace that!

Yes! Particularly because it just happened tonight! Lol and because it’s exactly what I wanted! The other half is annoyed they fudged up the sizing but that’s ok  that can be fixed

I agree with you OP, I don’t like rings that everyone else has. And I hate solitaires (too boring in my opinion)!

gardnerg :  Yes! 100% I was wowed that he picked out something he knew i would love, and i was pleasantly surprsied at how large my ring was…I would never upgrade or trade it in, my ring is so perfect and the sentimental value is through the roof. I look at it and smile even almost 5 years later.

I was wowed by the size of the stone, but not the ring in general.  I didn’t like the way it looked on me and thought the band was too thick.  I eventually had it re-set into a yellow gold halo and now I am wowed every time I see it on my finger!  Here is before and after.

I picked out my ring and I love it!! I just got it in September and at the time I thought it was unique but I have seen more rose gold halo’s on white gold bands. I still love it and cannot wait to add more stacking bands.
