Look at photographers on the east coast who shoot film, since it lends itself much more to that soft style. Many of the big name West Coasters you see on SMP, like Jose Villa, shoot on medium format film cameras.

I’m in Philadelphia and I did see some photographers with this style, just not a lot.

I definitely found that East Coast photography style is a bit more modern and saturated, but you can still find photogs who shoot in a more vintage style. I think it also has to do with the style of the weddings that are being shot. The local wedding blogs that I follow don’t have nearly as many vintage wedding features as SMP or Green Wedding Shoes or Grey Likes Weddings. It seems to me that the vintage wedding thing hasn’t caught on here in the same way that it has exploded in other parts of the country. I, for one, and happy about that, since I am definitely not a vintage-y bride. The more modern/urban sensibilities of this area definitely fit my vision better.

yes, i expressed my love for both to our photographer and she knew what i was talking about. i called them “california photographers” lol. i explained that i was having a hard time choosing between the styles and she said she definitely could work both styles into our wedding photos. i can’t think of any off the top of my head right now but i have seen some photographers on the east coast who go for more of this style.

i think sarah dicicco does some of this style and some of heather waraska’s work is vintage-y, but not quite like jose villa or aaron delesie.

The only thing that makes a photo “vintage” is a Photoshop action. Which any photog can do. I think your view on this is skewed by the fact that sites like SMP only feature west coast photogs – because that’s where their site functionality is located, and who pays to have their weddings featured on their site.

@LuckyJuls: i’m telling you, just contact her and ask if she’s available. how much are you willing to spend? i just worked out a GREAT package with her and i’m super happy now. i’m getting 10 hours of photography, 2 shooters, and an engagement session for what i think is very reasonable for her. i have looked at SO many photographers…perhaps you should try tyler boye or hoffer photography?
