Bump! Any west-Indian weddings coming up???
Jamaican here marrying a Canadian in Jamaica this August
Yup.. my family is Jamaican..
I am Not having black cake though.. hate it lol
-Black cake, everybody wants a piece.
-The mothers unveiling the cake.
-Favours (with the name and year etc, i wasn’t planning on having them, but my parents asked that we include them. Its no biggie)
-Traditional food all the way (well most of the way, lol)
-Not sure about a steel pan group or a dance group (depends on the cash flow)
-I feel like there is more to include but I’m really drawing a blank 🙁
I’m from St. Croix and Fiance from France, we’ll have a city hall wedding in Canada in September and then our ceremony in France 2017. Fiance family is from Guadeloupe and Benin, mines is in the USVI, St. Bart’s, Dominica, and Trinidad. The only traditions we’re including are the Indian lehenga and a paisley invitation suite.
Guyanese! We will definitely have black cake. As I am of East Indian heritage, we will also have traditional Indian invitations (gold, heavy, elephant symbols).
Mixed Jamaican bride here! I was hoping to serve patties but we’ll see if that’s possible. I love the idea of rumcake for an alternative cake. Thanks for all the ideas ladies.
My family is doing all of the cooking and I’m so so excited (oxtail, rice and peas, etc.). My Fiance is from NC so well be having some southern food as well. Our wedding is on 9.26, so 2 weeks to go!
I’m so glad I found this post! I’m from Barbados and my Fi is Jewish American. I didn’t even think to have black cake or a steel pan band for the cocktail hour. I’ll definitely talk to him about this. If we can find someone to make the cake that may be a great option, but I have a feeling the band may be a bit pricer than I’d like to spend.
