LOL We did this, but not for our honeymoon. We are Miami folks, so we had that dumb idea that we “knew” better and we would be okay….and we booked a cruise. The rates were great because of the hurricane season too.

Well…a hurricane came, then another, and then another….and we ended up on a 10 day “mystery cruise” where we woke up every day in a different port than we were supposed to be in. We had a balcony, so we could see the wall of the hurricane from our balcony (even though it was 100s of miles away). I have an awesome picture of three hurricanes lined up and where our ship was.

The funny part? It was the best cruise of my life. We were 100% safe the entire time because we were on a ship, so we could reposition no matter where that hurricane turned. We were on Carnival, and so with the trip insurance we could get our money back if it was interrupted.  Everyone else at our table was on their honeymoon, and we made friends with another couple that we still keep in touch with. We all had a great time wondering where we would end up and exploring new ports, chatting about if they had any guesses about where we would be next.

It was totally fun, a total adventure, the weather was great in all of our ports because the hurricanes actually have a way of pulling the bad weather towards them.

So my suggestion is book a cruise! If a hurricane comes, you are in for an adventure and your honeymoon will be SMOOTH SAILING (heheh had to pun)!

We are doing a cruise in October because of the fact that they can get you out of a hurricane. Our cruise is set to stop at Half Moon Cay, San Juan, St. Thomas and Grand Turk, but depending on weather, who knows!

As for outside the hurricane belt, you are looking at southern caribbean, like curacao, aruba and barbados.  Wherever you decide,I agree with cherrycoke,  just make sure you get insurance. so important at that time of the year.
