I have not stayed there, btu I did want to offer this piece of advice about TripAdvisor reviews. I always read through them very carefully, and determine exactly what people didn’t like about it, and if it was something that would have bothered me. For example, I am reading a lot of reviews for French and Italian hotels now on TripAdvisor while booking my honeymoon. A common “bad” review that came up was “The bathroom was too small” or “The room was too small!”. But those are just the norms for many European hotels! So the negative review wasn’t really all that negative. Determine what is important to you about where you are staying (do you need a room with nice decor? etc..) and if a hotel doesn’t meet those needs, then don’t stay there.

I am sure the Westin will be fine. It is a well know luxury hotel chain and I am sure you will have a lovely visit!

To second Valhalla, it’s important to read the details of the reviews rather than just look at the ratings. We’re about to book that hotel as well, so your post scared me a bit. But for example, the first review talks about small children – a non-issue for honeymooners. In fact, the poster says that the pool would have been perfect if she was with her husband alone. The second one also seemed to focus on small things.

Finally, I think a 78% rating is pretty high. The last “beach vacation” we did at Myrtle Beach, we were very satisfied with the place and it had a 50% approval rating on Trip Advisor.

Oh wow, now I’m worried too – I didn’t read all the reviews, but that sounds horrible. I remember we didn’t have many other choices using our Starwood Points.

Would love to hear from anyone who’s stayed there as well!

I have nothing but good things to say about the Westin Maui! I had a great experience there.

The staff was nice and the hotel is beautiful! Our room may have seemed a little small (but it was a full family trip, I suppose), but it was very clean! The pool was amazing, too.

We also signed up for a luau (at a different hotel) and the Westin staff was so helpful with sighing us up and getting us where we needed to go.

I also went over New Years (take that, Chicago winter!) and even though it was their busy season, they were still on top of everything.

I have absolutly no complaints about that hotel; only good things to say!

Oh and I should add that I guess the little things helped make the Westin such a memorable experience!

We were all greeted with fresh flower leis as soon as we got to the hotel. The lobby is open to the outside and to a ‘pond’ with real flamingos. It makes for a very cool atmosphere. There was also fresh lemongrass water avlabile by the front doors at all times :).

Also included with every room (I think it was like an $18 fee) is internet, but a free photo session where the hotel takes/gives you two or three 4×6 professional prints they take right in the lobby. Ours turned out great.

You can use your starpoints at the St Regis Princeville in Kauai and the sheratons on both Maui and Kauai too. Worth checking out! Good luck!
